W. M. ZAIKOWSKY INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE 2 Sheens-sneet 1 Filed Ooi'M 29, 1925 Nov. 15, 1927. awww W. M. ZAIKOWSKY INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE `Filed Oct. 29, 1925 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 single embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that it vis capable of many modications. Changes therefore in the construction and arrangement may be made Which do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. The combination With an internal coinbustion engine ot an auxiliary chamber coinmunicating with the cylinder thereof, a valve controlling said communications,- me-nns forv cooling the gaseous contents of said auxiliary chamber, and means for opening the said `valve on. the compression stroke of the engine and for closing the said valve. prior to the ignition of the charge, said auxiliary chamber being a continuous tube and having means for causing the gas therein to circalate therethrough in a predetermined direction. y
2. The combination with an internal conibustion engine of an auxiliary chamber cornmunicating with the cylinder thereof, a valve controlling said communications, means for cooling the gaseous contents of said auxiliary chamber, and means engine and for closing the said valve prior to the ignition of the charge, said auxiliary chamber being a continuous tube and having ixed means iior causing the gas therein to for opening the I said valve on the compression stroke of the circulate therethrough in a, predetermined direction.
3. The combination with an internal coin-l bustion engine of an auxiliary chamber coni-= municating with the cylinder thereof, e valve controlling said communications, means for cooling the gaseous contents of saidnuxiliar chamber, and means for opening the sei i. v
valve on the compression stroke of the engine and for closing the said valve prior to tlis cooling the gaseous contents of said uuxii iary chamber, and means for opening the' said valve en the compression stroke of the engmeand for closing the said'viilve rior to the ignition of the charge, said anni im?? chamber being a continuous tube end havingl its interior provided with a smoothlycurved surface :it one side to facilitate joassage'oi? the ges in that direction,'the opposite eno, of the tube being tapering in the cloni@ wise direction and leading into seid. sii'iootiilj;- curved surface.
