PRINTER S TYPEBINDER.
Application fi'led September 4, 1926. Serial No. 133,569.
. My invention relates to typebinders for newspaper or other printing offices for holding pages or portions of pages together on a plate when the chases are removed, and the 6 objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a typebinder of this class in which the transverse bars are provided with spaced apart slots in their lower sides and the column rules are provided with pro- 10 jections on their lower sides adapted to extend through said slots, thus providing a more stable typebinder; second, to provide a typebinder of this class in which the longitudinal bars are provided with notches their entire length so that the longitudinal bars and transverse bars may be used interchangeably if desired; third, to provide a typebinder of this class in which the column rules project through slots in the transverse bars; fourth, to provide a novelly constructed typebinder of this class, and, fifth, to provide a typebinder of'this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, efiicient, easy to operate, easy to adjust and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order. I
With these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of'parts and portions, as will be hereinafter described in detail, and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my typebinder, shown assembled and ready for use with the type in position, and Fig. 2 is a seetional view on an enlarged scale through 22 of Fig. 1. 7
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the views of the drawings. I I
The binder consists of two longitudinal fiat metal bars 1, which set on their edges and are provided in their upper edges with spaced slots 1 extending downwardly one half the width of the bar from their upper edges, a pair of transverse fiat metal bars 2, also positioned on their edges and slots 2 in their lower edges in spaced relation to each other and extending one half the width of said bars from their lower edges. The
bars 1 interlock with the bars 2 at or near their ends, forming a rectangularly shaped frame as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and are adaptedto be adjusted by positioning the members 2 in the slots in the members 1 in varying positions, thus providing for adjustment both longitudinally and transversely,
It will be noted that the spaced slots in both the bars 1 and 2 extend the full length of'said bars. Positioned parallel with the bars 1, are the column rules 3, each of which is provided with extended portions 3 which are adapted to extend through the slots 2* in the members 2] at the opposite ends, as shown in the drawings, it being noted that the slots 2 are considerably wider than the width of the column rules3to'permit side movement of the members 3 relatively-to the bars 2.
Though I haveshown anddescribed a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but
' desire to include in the scope of my invention, the, construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: V
1. In a typebinder, a pair of longitudinal bars provided with spaced slots their entire length in their normally upperedges, a pair of transverse bars provided with spaced slots their entire length in their normally lower edges, and column rules extending parallel with said longitudinal bars provided with extended lower sides protruding through the slots in said transverse bars.
2. In a typebinder, a pair of longitudinal bars provided with spaced slots in their normally upper'edges, a pair of transverse bars provided with spaced slots their entire length in their normally lower edges, and
column rules extending parallel with said longitudinal'bars provided with extended lower sides protruding through the slots in said transverse bars.
3. In a typebinder,- transverse bars provided with spaced slots their entire length in their normally lower sides, and column rules extending at right angles with said 7 transverse bars provided with extended lower sides protruding through the slots in said transverse bars: 0 v
4:. In a typb'inder, transverse bafsLpro 5 Vided with spaced slots in their norm a l y lower sides, and column rnles'extending at right angles With said transverse bar s provided with extended lower sides extending into the slots in said transverse bars.
In testimony whereof l sh ave hereunto 10 set my hand ,atfian Diego, Calif rnia, this- 28th day of August, 1926;
' 'DENIS MOLAUGHLIN.
