This invention relates'to improvements in Una of the objects of the present invention to provide an improved vent con struction which is particularly adapted for floors of theaters, auditoriums and the like, waich simple in construction and efficientin operation. i
A further object of the invention is to 1 provide an improved floor vent which may be easily adjusted for controlling the amount of air passing through the vent.
A further object of the invention is to pro e an improved construction of air vent in which novel means are employed for adjustably supporting a deflector on the base of the vent and means whereby said deflector may be readily moved without the necessity of removing the securing means therefrom.
These and other objects are accomplished by oroviding a construction and an arrangement of the various parts in the manner hereinafter described and particularly pointcd out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a fragmentary cross sectional view of a floor of a building showing the manner in which my improved floor vent is mounted therein.

My invent-ion herein shown and described is directed to a floor vent which is adapted to be used in connection with the ventilating and heating systems in buildings, such, for instance, as theaters, auditoriums and the like. In such places where large numbers of people congregate the air becomes foul and it is necessary to have a continuously incoming flow of fresh air, and in this connection it is essential that the air vents which control the inflow of fresh air be provided with means whereby the amount of air can be regulated to accommodate the sizeof the building or auditorium.
In carrying out my invention I have shown the same comprising a base 10 which is preferably in the form of a circular tubularcollar 11 and is provided with a peripherally X- tendingflange 12. This flange 12 is located substantially centrally of the collar 11 and is formed integrallytherewith. At equal intervals around the flange 12 are radially extending cars 13 which are provided with apertures 1 1 for the reception of bolts for se curing the base of the floor vent in the cementflooring 15, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper surface of the flange 12 is preferably arranged to coincide with the upper surface 1 6 of the cement flooring 15 of the building or auditorium in which the floor vents are installed. Arranged at regular intervals, and preferably spaced about the base 10 of the floor vent at approximately one hundred twenty degrees apart are three vertically extending channel-like portions 17. Each channel-like portion 17 is provided with a radially extending slot- 18 and a relatively larger vertically extending-slot 19. These channel-like portions 17 extend radially in a cylindrical band 28. This band 23 of the cap 21 is provided with three apertures 24- which are arranged or spaced apart at equal intervals around the periphery thereof in a manner to coincide or align with the radially extending slots 18 of the channellike portions 17 so that bolts 25 may be inserted with the nuts 26 of these bolts positioned in the relatively large recesses 19 formed on the inner sides of the channel-like portion 17 of the base 10.
- From the above description it -will be seen that the deflector cap 21 may be adjusted vertically with respect to the base 10 and secured in predetermined positions of adjustment by clamping the cap 21 to thebase by means of the bolts 25. If it is found necessary to adjust the cap with respect to the base all that it becomes necessary to do is to engage the heads of the bolts with the wrench and loosen them and adjust the deflector cap 21 to the desired position and then secure thccap in position by tightening the bolts. In the actual use of my improved floor vent the base 10 is usu ally connected beneath the floor to a conduit which is usually connected with a combination ventilating and heating system through which warm air or cool air maybe circulated in ventilating or heating the building. As the air comes through the collar 11 of the base 10 it strikes the deflector cap 21 and is defiected'radially in adirection between the flange 12 of the base 10 and the tubular portion or cylindrical band 23 of the cap 21, as shown by the arrows in Fig. 3.
While in the above specification I have described one embodiment which my invention may assume in practice it will of course be understood that the same is capable of modification and that modification may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as expressed in the following claims.
\Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
-1. A floor vent comprising a tubular base,
a peripherally and radially extending flange formed integrally wlth said base, a plurality of radially extending channel portions arranged at intervals about said base, a defleeting cap mounted on said base, and bolts extending through apertures in said cap and through said channel portions for adjustably securing said cap to said base.
2. A floor vent comprising a tubular base,
a peripheral flange formed integral with said base for securing said base to the floor, a plurality of channel portions arranged about the periphery of said base member, a plurality of bolts slidingly mounted in said channel portions, and a deflecting cap adj-ustably secured to said base, said cap having a plurality of apertures registering with said channel portions for receiving the bolts for securing said cap in predetermined positio'ns of adjustment.
3. A floor vent comprising a tubular base, a peripheral flange formed integrally with said base for securing said base to the floor, a conically shaped cap deflector mounted on said base, means for adjustably securing said cap to said base including a plurality of channel portions spaced at regular intervals about said base, there being radially extending recesses formed in said channel portions, each of said channel portions being provided with inner recesses relatively larger than said first mentioned recesses, a plurality of bolts extending through said cap and through said first named recesses insaid channel portions, and nuts in threaded engagement with said bolts and mounted in said second named recesses for preventing the rotation of the same and for securing said cap to said base.
