The present invention relates to an improvement in dobbies for looms.

The object of the invention is to reorganize and improve the construction of dobby mechanism in order to facilitate changes in the operation of the loom, and to this end the invention consists in the mechanism hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings illustrating the preferred form of the invention, Fig. 1 is an elevation of the dobby fingers and its connections with the dobby hooks and dobby levers by which the harness jacks are operated; and Fig. 2 is a plan of the dobby finger arrangement.

The illustrated embodiment of the invention is described as follows :The dobb fingers 10 are pivotally mounted on the ger shaft 11, supported in the frame members 12. This finger shaft is held in position by a set screw 13, the shaft being received in bosses in the frame members 12. A supporting member 14 for the free ends of the fingers 10 is provided, with a series of guide pins 15, which engage the reduced portions 16 at the ends of the fingers to guide the fingers up and down in their movements by the dobby chain, the cams of which engage the portion 17 of the fingers. The left-hand ends of the dobby fingers, as shown in Fig. 1, are arranged so that some of them are provided with the upwardly extended dobby hook lifting arms 18, which engage the lower dobby hooks 19, and others of the dobby fingers are provided with the arms 20, upon which the push rods 21 rest, which are employed to lift the upper dobby hooks 22. The

obby hooks 19 and 22 are pivotally mounted on the ends of the dobby levers 23, which are pivoted at 24 to the harness jacks 25. The dobby girts 26 and 27 are of the usual form.

The construction thus far described may be ofany usual or preferred construction.

The dobby fingers require re-arrangement at times for the purpose of changing the control of the harness jacks for weaving different types of cloth. When this is to be done, the finger shaft 11 is loosened and withdrawn. Heretotfore this freed all of the dobby fingers, which were then removed to a bench orother convenient place for rearrangement in the new order or series. It is desirable to make these changes in the dobby fingers without removing them from the obby frame, and to this end a rod 28 is provided inthe dobb frame, which engages a groove in the un er side of the dobby fingers near the finger shaft. This permits the withdrawal of the finger shaft without disturbing the dobby fingers from their normal position, and permits the re-arrangement of the dobby fingers without taking them out of the dobby frame. This supporting rod 28 comprises a support for the dobby fingers for holding them in unchanged position, i. e., from longitudinal movement and from falling movement when the finger shaft to which they are normally pivoted is removed from the machine, and affords access to the fingers for removal, replacement or rearrangement in a convenient manner.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

1. A dobby for looms having, in combination, dobby fingers, a dobby frame, a finger shaft supported in the frame, upon which the dobby fingers are pivotally mounted, an

end supporting member for the dobby fingers, and an auxiliary finger support for supporting the dobby fingers in unchanged position when the finger shaft is removed.

2. Dobby mechanism for looms having, in combination, aplurality of dobby fingers, a dobb frame, a finger shaft upon which the do by fingers are pivotally supported, removably secured in the frame, an end support for the dobby fingers, an auxiliary support for the dobby fingers located between the finger shaft and the end support, and at such a position between the two that the center of gravity lies between the auxiliar suport and the end support, the dobby gers being provided with a recess to receive the auxiliary'support, and being so shaped as to restrain the dobby fingers from movement when the finger shaft is removed.
