HARMAN J'. SHOCK, OF BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON.
PURSE CLIP.
Application filed May 9,
. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1 showing the barbs bent over in their normal holding position and a section of the walls of a purse fastened to. the clip thereby in dotted outlines, Fig. 3 is an edge elevation of Fig. 1 showing the clip handle in dotted outline in its open position, Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the pocket of a garment with the major portion of said garment broken away with a purse, to which one of my clips is fastened, engaged to said pocket thereby, drawn on a smaller scale, and Fig. 5 is a side or edge elevation of Fig. t in section on a vertical plane.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout. Certain parts are broken away to show other parts hidden thereby.
vVith more particular reference to. the designated partsrThe main plate of the device is hi'nge arm 6 pivoted to handle 7 by hinge pin 8.
Preferably four barbs 9 are formed by st-ampin the same from openings a to project at right-angles from plate 6 in a direction from handle 7 when in its closed position shown in full lines.
Boss 10 is preferably formed on the surface of handle 7 next arm plate 6, when closed, by stamping from recess (4 WVhen shaping plate 6 for engagement with hinge pin 8 hinge eye a is formed. On the exterior surface of eye a is made tooth lug 11 with inclined sides.
When handle 7 is shaped for engagement with hinge pin 8 eyes a are formed and in the forming thereof dog 12 is made by extending the cutting further into said arm than is required in shaping said eyes only. Preferably handle 7 is spring tempered so that dog 12 is resilient. Dog 12 is adapted to engage with tooth 11 when handle 7 is nearly closed against plate 6, and the engaging surfaces of said dog and tooth are shaped to cause an engagement between the 1927. Serial No. 189,829.
two which may be overcome by no great force applied to open'handle 7 and thus cause said dog to mount and pass over the top of said tooth.
My clip is adapted for fastening to one of the walls of pocketbook 13 by applying arm plate 6 to the outside of said wall and forc' ing barbs 9 therethrough to be clinched thereover as shown at 9 in Fig. 2 where fragmentary pocket book wall 13 is shown in dotted lines as being engaged by said clinched barbs shown in dotted lines at 9, as
stated.
In garment 14is pocket 15 with opening (Z thereinto. In Figs. 4 and 5 pocket book 13 is shown in place in pocket 15. Before said pocket book was inserted in the pocket, handle 7 was opened clear of arm 6 and when the front 14 of said pocket bore against the hinge of the clip said handle was pressed downward to occupy its position illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 with dog 12 engaged with tooth 11 to prevent the easy raising and opening of handle 7, and also with boss 10 prest into the cloth of the pocket front to add to the hold of said handle 7 thereon. In this manner the clip, while not positively engaging and fastening the pocket book within the pocket recess, does so engage it therein that more than the ordinary forces tending to displace the pocket book from the pocket are required to cause its removal therefrom. Yet a force easily applied by the hand to open handle 7 when properly applied'to said handle will release the pocket book from its described engagement and further serve as a hand hold for the convenient withdrawal of said pocket book from said pocketr Having thus disclosed my invention, what I claim as new and desire ters Patent is,
' A purse clip consisting of a two-member hinge one member of which has barbs thereto secure by Leton adapted to pierce and be fastened to the walls of a purse by clinching thereover, a tooth having inclined sides on the hinge eye of said one hinge member, said other member of said hinge having a boss thereon next to the side of said one member when closed, and a resilient dog on said other member adapted to engage with said tooth when closed proximate to said one member.
