Application ied'ncemb'ern', iaaa'seriai No. 75e,5s7,'and in Germanyr February 2s', 1924.
My invention relates tok improvements in steam boilers, and more particularly in boilers in Which'in case of a sudden increase of the consumption yof steam the feed Water supply is interrupted, so that lthe increased amount of steam is supplied Without changing the combustion of the fuel merely 'by vaporization of the Water from high level to low level. The object of the improvements is to -provide a boiler in which the heat storingcapa'city of the boiler is increased by increasing the `volume of Water 'at the disposal for vaporization and included between the high and low levels. For this :purpose the number `or the size 'of the upper steam and Water chambers might 'be increased. This, however, is expensive particularly in lhigh pressure boilers, and in addition only a part of the capacity ot the steain 'and Water chamber yis made use iot for increasing the volume included kbetween the 'hig-.i and low levels. My invention consists in increasing 'the said volume or the Water storiiig effect by connecting the stea'rn and Water chamber vor upper boiler drum 'With a subsidiary Vchamber "orchambers the height 'of Ywhich is substantially equal to the difference of the high and y'low levels, and which are disposed so that they are nearly *or ventirely iilled When the Water Within the upper boiler drum is at high level, and that they are nearly or entirely empty Whenfthe Water lWithin the said boiler drum is at `loi'v level. Preferably lthe said subsidiary Water chamber is made in sections each consisting of a pipe Vequal or sub's't'a"ntia-l'l'y equal in :diameter to the distance between the high and lowlevel's, in Which case Vthe said v'subsidiary chamber may be constructed from seamlesstubes.
vFor the purpose of vexplaii'iing the invention an example embodying the "saine has been shown in the accompanying drawing in which the 'same reference 'characters have been used in all. the vieivsfto indicate Icorresponding parts. In p said drawing,
Fig. l, is a sectional elevation showing the boiler, and y Ai7`ig. 2, is` atop plan View With the top 'part of the brickvvork removed 'to show the pipes storing the water.
In thelexarnple shown int-he drawing the boiler comprises a lovver 'Water drum a and an upper 'steam and lWater ydrum belonnect'ed by abank of Water tubes fc. The letters s and t indicate respectivelythe feed Water inlet'an'd the steam off-take. Below the tubes c there is a gratel d," and inthe u'elthere is aA superheater made' in two Sections @and f, and an apparatus g for heating air yforsupportin-g combustion. The

As' appears `romFig. Qthe Whole area of storing Y'the boiler'may be made use 4ot' for providing .n In 'view of 4the diameter.v df the pipes fm I am kenabled to provide` seamless pipes, so that the cost of the System is'compara- While ifndfwbie the ihvhtin refrenceh'as been Lmade to aparticular example pembodying the same, .'Ij vvi'sh it "to be undersjaiod that I 'do autumn myseifito thecca 'struction `and arnangenient'off'the storing chamber m shown infthe drawing, 'nor i0 the use of the said storing chamber in a boiler of the type shown in the figures.
