This device may include an upright 21 having a lateral foot 22 pivoted at 25 to the plate 5 and having a lateral handle 24 thereon. The flange 6 may be cut away at this point to provide clearance for the stop. The top of the post has a slightly inclined port 25 beyond the highest end of which is a notch 26 and lug 27. This notch 26 is so positioned that when the outer end of the shaft 16 is received therein, the wheel 18 will be slightly elevated, thereby permitting the shaft to rotate but preventing it from revolving.
In playing a game, the disk is revolved, with the stop in the position shown. Then the stop is swung to the dotted line position of Fig. 1, thereby freeing the shaft and letting the horses go forward. After one or more revolutions, the stop may be swung back into shaft engaging position, the end of the shaft will climb incline 25 until the head is furthest forward when the shaft sto s rotating is declared the winner.
ame points A maybe pivoted on the hub portion of the disk, and the pointer 15 Wlll indicate one of these numbers when the disk has come to rest.
As thus arranged, a very attractivetoy and game is provided, which has considerable action, and wherein there may be a deft nite stopping and starting point for the race.
While I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be. understood that various changes and modifications may be made therein wit-hinthe contemphr tion of the invention and under the scope of the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A toy including a base, a horizontal shaft pivotally anchored atone end to the base, a wheel at the outer end of the shaft, in contact with the base an eccentric on the shaft, a miniature racing object having one end only rotatably engaging the eccentric, whereby one end of such object is supported by the shaft While the other end is free to travel on the surface below the shaft, and means for rotating-the shaft.
2. A toy including .a base, a horizontal shaft pivotally and rotatably anchored to the base, a traveling support for the outer end of the shaft, a plurality of eccentric elements on the shaft, a racing object engaging each eccentric, and common means for rotating the shaft and propelling it to revolve about its pivot 3. A toy including a base, a horizontal shaft pivotally and rotatably anchored to the able into and out of engagement with the, I
outer end of the shaft for lifting the wheel off the base while permitting the shaft to rotate.
l. A toy including a base, a horizontal disk mounted for rotation above the base, a
rotatable shaft above the disk having a pivotal anchorage at the center of the disk, a friction Wheel on the shaft engaging the disk for ell'ecting rotation of the shaft upon rotationof the disk, a wheel at the outer end of the shaft normally engaging the base, a plurality of miniature racing objects having one end secured to the shaft and having their other ends resting on the disk, said shaft being caused to travel about its pivotal anchorage by rotation of the disk and in a direction opposite thereto.
5. A toy including a base, a horizontal disk mounted for rotation above the base, a rotatable shaft above the disk having a pivotalanchorag'e at the center of the disk, a friction wheel on the shaft engaging the disk for effecting rotation of the shaft upon rotation of the disk, a wheel at the outer end of the shaft normally engaging the base,
a plurality of cranks on the shaft, a plurality of racing objects, each having a poition thereof connected with a crank and having a portion trailing on the disk, said objects being thus'caused to bob up and down upon rotation of the shaft, rotation of the shaft causing said wheel to rotate to revolve the shaft about its pivotal anchorage.
6. A toy including a base, a horizontal disk mounted for rotation above the base, a rotatable shaft above the disk having a pivotal anchorage at the center of the disk, a friction wheel on the shaft engaging the disk for effecting rotation of the shaft upon rotation of the disk, a wheel at the outer end of the shaft normally engaging the base, a plurality of cranks on the shaft, a plurality of racing objects, each having a portion thereof connected with a crank and hav ing a portion trailing on the disk, said objects being thus caused to bob up and down upon rotation of the shaft, rotation of the shaft causing said wheel to rotate to revolve the shaft about its pivotal anchorage, and an obstruction movably secured on the base having means thereon to engage the outer end of the shaft and movable into and out of shaft engaging position.
7. A toy comprising a base, apost on the base, a disk having a central stem rotatably fitted over the pin whereby it is revolubly mounted above the base, a collar surrounding the post, a horizontal shaft rotatably engaging the collar, a friction WhGGl'OII the shaft engaging the disk, a Wheel engaging the base supporting the outer end of the shaft, eccentrics on the shaft, and miniature objects engaging the eccentrics and operated thereby.
8. A toy comprising a base, a post on the base, a disk having a central stem rotatably fitted over the pin whereby it is revolubly mounted above the base, a collar surrounding the post, a horizontal shaft rotatably engaging the collar, a friction Wheel on the shaft engaging the disk, a Wheel engaging the base supporting the outer end of the shaft, eccentrics on the shaft, miniature objects engaging the eccentrics and operated thereby, scoring characters on the disk, and a pointer on the collar opposite to Which the scoring characters are successively moved 7 20 upon rotation of th disk.
9. In a toy, the combination with a base having a pivot post, of a circular track, a
horizontally extending shaft anchored to the c base through the pivot post, an eccentric element on theshaft, a racing object engaging the said element, a loosely mounted means on the'post engaging the shaft at one end thereof, and means spaced from said post for supporting and rotating the shaft.
10. In a toy, the combination With a base, of a circular track, means for rotatably mounting the track on the base, a horizon tally extending shaft having an eccentric element on the shaft, a racing object engaging the said element, a Wheel disposed near one 1.
