To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, F RIEDRIOH Zonnmenn, municipal architect, and a resident of '56 Teichstrasse, in the city of Merseburg, in the German Empire, a citizen of the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means of Producing the Openings forDoors and Windows in the YValls of Buildings from Cast Material, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a method of producing the openings for the windows and doors and the like in the walls of buildings made from east material such as concrete or the like. In accordance with this invention the enclosing frames for the windows, doors and the like which are to be used in the finished structure are inserted in the frame boarding, and are secured in position by being retained in the cast walls by a filling of, for example, thinly liquid, solidifying concrete mixture.
By means of the method referred to it becomes possible to insert the final frames of the windows and doors at any desired place of the temporary frame boardings which are of substantially identical shape and without provision for the mounting of the windows and doors; the said final frames which are secured in position by casting concrete or the like around them, by my method are not displaceably connected to the temporary frame boardings, but they are only retained in position during the casting and solidification of the cast wall by means of securing pins or the like engaging for example with holes in the said temporary frame boardings. After solidification the said pins may be withdrawn and the boardings may be removed.
In order to protect the final frames of the windows and doors and the like from direct contact with the moist cast wall duringthe casting and settingprocess, and in order to produce at the same time convenient fastening means for the covering and enclosing frames and window sills and boards and the like, the said window and door frames in one preferred form of construction of the invention are surrounded with a lining frame corresponding to the thickness of the cast wall to which they are securely connected. For the purpose of bracing and more securely fastening the lining frames in position in the surrounding cast material these frames are preferably strengthened with exterior, preferably inclined cross ribs.
On the accompanying drawing an embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example. Figure 1 shows part of the casting mould in elevation. Figure 1 is a wall panel of of the frame boarding in longitudinal section. Figure 2 isa longitudinal section of the temporary frame boarding on the line AB of Figure 1. Figure 2 1s a side View of one of the standards. Figure 3 is a front View of an inserted window frame of the frame boarding. Figure 3 is a side view of the window frame according to Figure 3. Figure 3 is a plan view of the same.
In the case illustrated by way of example the entire casting mould is considered to consist of similar individual sections without special provisions for windows and doors. All wall sections consist of a combination of four easily jointable and easily detachable main parts, that is to say, the entirely identical upper and lower frame posts 1, the binding pieces 3 corresponding to the desired. thickness of the walls, and the dove tailed ends 8 of which are in engagement with the recesses 7 of the frame posts 1, the vertical standards 4: (Figure 2) to be inserted into endto-end holes 6 of the frame posts, and of the frame panels 2 to be composed oflsingle boards, and which are pressed with spring action against the standards t by means of the wooden cross bars 5 of the panels 2, pivoted on the screw bolts 16, so as to detachably secure the panels in position. i
The longitudinal and transverse bars 9 and 10 of the board panels 2 serve for bracing and stiffening them.
The settingup of the frame boardings and the filling in of the material is effected by first assembling the lower frame posts 1 of the mould. frame by neans of the binding pieces 3 to constitute the plan of the structure, the frame pieces referred to being mounted on a corresponding support, foundation, wall or ceiling. After the insertion of the standards 4: and the mounting of the equally connected upper frame posts 1 the panels 2 are secured in position on the standards 4: by means of the spring acting wooden cross bars 5. In assembling the frame boardings the openings for the windows,
doors and the like are not taken into consideratiom But the openings referred to are obtained according to this invention by providing the windows 17 definitely to be used,
the door frames or the like with a lining 12 of a thickness corresponding to the thickness of the cast wall to be obtained; the said frames being then inserted into the frame boarding at the desired points. For the purpose of securing these insertion frames in position in the vertical and horizontal directions removable retaining pi-ns 13 are employed whch may be inserted in holes 14 which are providedor subsequently drilled into 'the temporary frame hoarding accord ing to requirements. For more securely retaining the frame boarding for the openings within the cast or filled-in wall, and for reinforcing said, frame boarding against the pressure of the filling material, particularly during the setting and solidifying process the exterior lining 12 may be provided preferably with inclined reinforcing ribs 15 of laths, secured by any suitable means, by nailing orotherwise. The frame boardings 12, 15 remain permanently in the wall, and constitute the flanning of the openings. By the subsequentmounting of covering bars or boards onthe lining frame 12 any existing open joints between the wooden parts and the fillingv are covered up. The window sills and window boards and the like are also conveniently and permanently mounted on this frame lining. Furthermore than that, by means of these frame linings all contact of the sensitive timber parts of the window 17 or of door framings with the moist cast material is also prevented.
, Thus, in accordance with this invention the openings for the doors or windows may always be arranged at any suitable place i'i the temporary frame boardings, and the permanent windows and doors, or other aperture surrounding frames may be immediately inserted in the Wall, and may be secured by casting the material around them without any drawbacks or inconveniences. The complicated temporary framing of the windoW flanning and the like, and the subsequent insertion and securing in position of the doors and windows in the openings, and the difiicult trimming and adjusting around the openings is thereby dispensed with.
I No claim is made in this specification to the false frame or scaffold which is to be erected in the complete height of a story and comprising uprights inserted into lower and upper. horizontal frame bars andiboarding arranged between such uprights, as this is claimed in my copending application for Letters Patent of the United States, Serial No. 528,458, filed January 11, 1922.
What I claim is In a structure of the class described a false scaffoldingv including two bounding walls spaced apart, a door or window frame the members of which are of a width equal to that of the space betweensaid walls,said frame beinginserted between said walls, a boxing around the same andthe boards of which boxing are provided with obliquely arranged ribs for the purpose of reinforcing the same and for the purpose of improving the hold in the concrete, these ribs being provided on. the outer surface of this bOYIlDQ'.
