ERNEST BoooHIno, or onirron, NEW ansnr.
POCKET. .rooL.
Application filedlune},
To all whom it may comma Be it known that I, Ennns'r BoooHnvo, a citizen of the United States,gresiding"at Clifton, in the countyof Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in PocketTools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a pocket tool and key ring or holder, and more'particularly to a novel and improved multiple too-l imple ment which may be carried by the individual in a key ring or tool case to perform certain mechanical operations.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a pocket tool which may be formed from a single blank of metal and which embodies a plurality of means to perform certain mechanical functions and operations with each end of the tool as the particular need arises.
Another and important object of my invention is the provision of a simple mechanical tool embodying a bottle opener, tack lifter, chisel, and nail cleaner, formed by striking out certain portions of one end of the tool, the opposite end of the blank being capable of use as a key ring, caliper, and cigar cutter.
A continued and very important object of my invention is the construction of a highly useful and convenient pocket tool capable of being struck out of various grades of material and one which is extremely simple in construction, highly eflicient in operation and use, practical, and durable.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the subject matter being claimed, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the combination tool and the means for holding a number of keys;
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the keys re moved and the arm swung on its pivot;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and
- Fig. 1 is a further section taken on the line H of Fig. 1.
driver or chisel,
1922., Serial no. 565,546,
Referring now tothe drawings wherein like reference characters designate corre sponding parts throughout the several views,
5 designates the body of a blank, preferably ofrigid metal of substantial thickness the top edge 6 of which terminatesjn a sharp point '7 made cutting the material the blank away at an acute angle as shown at seats to provide a nail cleaner or tobe used for other purposes. of the blank is also out way to provide an edge 9 capable of being used as a screwthe extreme edge being somewhat beyond the pointed end 7 to permit of the proper rotation of the tool when the same is to be used for the last-mentioned purpose. An incision or recess 10 on the lower edge of the blank and somewhat rears wardly of the screw-driver edge 9 is provided which permits the tool to be used as a tack puller. The body of the blank is also cut away as at 11 to provide for a pointed projection 12, thus permitting the tool to be used as a bottle opener.
The opposite curved end 13 of the blank is formed preferably with an integral curved outwardly extending arm 14 and in addition is provided with an annular recess 15 for a purpose presently to appear. curved arm 16 pivoted at a point 17 immediately above the recess 15 is similar in shape to the curved projection or extension 14 above referred to, the last-mentioned curved arm 16 having a rib 17 adjacent its outer end, said rib being adapted to ride in groove or depression 18 in the extreme outer end of the curved arm 14 so as to lock the respective arms to retain the keys 19, as is well understood. The arm 16 is also provided with an enlargement 20 at its opposite end, said enlargement having a beveled edge 21 constituting the cigar cutter, it being understood that when the end of the cigar is inserted within the aperture 15 and the arm 16 rotated on its pivot, the cutting edge will sever the end of the cigar in the manner of the well-known cigar cutter. Immediately below the'recess 15 I have provided a series of graduations designated 22 so that the arms l ljand 16 may be utilized as an indicating caliper, in which instance the beveled edge or cutting edge 21 will aline with the graduations 22 to indicate the correct measurement. It will thus The extreme end be seen that my novel and improved tool may be utilized for a multiple of mechanical purposes and-that the cigar cutter may be used Without removing the keys, the
resiliency of the arms 14 and 16 permitting the easy separation and unlocking of the 1 same when it is desired to use the device changing the form of the details structlon or otherwise altering the arrange ment of the correlated parts Withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
,I-Iaving thus'v described my invention,
.what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is A pocket tool comprising a blank having a recess in one end thereof, an outwardly curved extension formed integral With the blank, a curved arm pivotally attached to the blank above the said recess and movable relative to the curved extension, an enlargement having a beveled edge formed with the curved arm and extending beyond the pivot, said beveled edge movable across the recess to sever an object inserted therein, and lockingmeans located at the free ends of the respective extension and the curved arm.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. l
