To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, BEULAH L HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residin at New York city, in the county of New ork and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair Curlers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hair curlers.

An essential object ofthe invention s to rovide a device of this character, which will e exceedingly simple of construction, and

characterized by means which renders the device highly elastic and pneumatic so as to permit it to yieldingly accommodate ltself against the head of the user.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character whlch 1 s so designed as to prevent any possible ln ury to the hair in the act of applylng or removing same from the hair.

A still further object of the lnvention 1s-to provide a hair curler characterized by means whereby the device can be washed as desired and always maintained in a sanitary condition.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a hair curler which can be qu ckly a plied to the hair and secured agamst acci ental derangement therefrom.

A still further object of the invention is to rovide a device of this character which will e highly useful; simple of construction, and

capable of being manufactured at small cost.

With these and other-objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in'the accompanying drawmg, in which j Figure 1 is a view showing the device ap lied. x

Figure 5 is a section through the device" the air in the tubing between the aforesaid points 11,11 and gives a substantial body formation to the major length of said tubing, permitting the hair to be uniformly wound about said major length of the tubing and at the same time yieldingly accommodate itself to the head of the wearer.

Beyond the resilient fastening's hereinbefore referred to, the tubing has its ends extended to form manipulating tabs 16, 16, one of which is intended to be pulled away with respect to the other of said tabs whenremoving the device from the hair.

By arranging the resilient head 14 to extend from one side of the tubing and the socket of the means 13 to open from the opposite side of the tubing, considerable pull can be applied against the device'without casually separating the ends thereof when the device is applied.

In usin the device it is normally held in straight orm and the hair is curled or wound about the major length of the tubing between the points 11, 11. When the hair is entirely wound upon the tubing the two ends of the latter are brought to ether and the means 12 operatively connects with aforesaid means 13. This secures the tubing in spiral loop formation as shown in Fig-v ure 5.

By sealing the tubing by the means 12 and 13 said major length of the tubing assumes a relatively rigid foundation which I find is of great advantage in the operation of initially winding the hair about the tubing. In addition thereto the body ac uires a pneumatic form which renders it. aterally elastic against the head of the wearer.

While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is 'obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of-my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.

. What is claimed as new is 1. A hair curler formed of a single piece of seamless hollow elastic tubing, and mating fastening devices sealing the tubing inwardly of the respective ends thereof prior to bringing the mating fastening elements into co-acting engagement.

2. A hair curler comprising a strip of hollow rubber tubing, and means for normally sealing the ends of the major length of said tubin and for securing the ends together in loop iorm.

3. A hair curler comprising a strip of rubber tubing, and resilient fastenings at the ends of the tubing for holding the latter inloop form and for normally sealing the tubing adjacent opposite ends thereof.

4. A hair curler comprising a strip of hollow rubber tubin circular in cross section and provided wit means for holding said tubing in loop form and for normally sealing the tubing adjacent its ends.

5. A hair curler com rising a strip of hol- W rubber tubing,- and mating elements adjacent opposite ends of said tubing for sealing the same prior tobringing said element in co-acting engagement.

6-. A hair curler comprising a strip of hollow rubber tubing, and co-acting elements adjacent opposite ends of said tubing for normally sealing the same, the co-acting portions of said elements being disposed on opposite sides of said tubing.
