Description
R. sTocK HINGE Filed Sept. 24. 1919 Patented May l12?., 1925.
UNITED STATES ROBERT STOCK, OF SANDUSKY., OHIO.
HINGE.
Application led September 24, 1919. Serial No. 325,988.
Be it known that I. Romina' STOCK. a citizen of the United States. and resident ot' the cit-y of Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hinges and has for its object to provide a hinge having members provided with means by which they may be locked into operative relation and when desired the members may be released.
Another object is to provide a hinge having a knuckle member provided with a slot in the knuckle member through which the pintle member may be inserted and removed, and said knuckle member being provided with a stop for limiting the movement of the pintle member in one direction.
Another object is to provide a hinge having a plurality of knuckles on one member, certain of said knuckles being provided with a slot for the insertion of the xed pintle member.
A still further object is to provide certain improvements in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts whereby the above named and other objects may be effectively attained.
A practical embodiment of my invention ,is represented in the accompanying drawings in which,
Fig. 1 represents a plan view of my improved hinge showing the members separated.
Fig. 2 represents a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 represents a plan view similar to Fig. 1. showing the member in position to be assembled.
Fig. 4 represents a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 5 represents a plan view of the members in operative relation, the pintle member being shown in dotted outline at the limit oi' its movement in one direction.
Fig. 6 represents a trout elevation of the same.
Fig. 7 represents a plan view of a modified form ot hinge member, showing the members separated.
Fig. S represents a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 9 represents a plan vieii'of the memi bers in position to be assembled.l
Fig. 10 represents a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 11 represents a plan view of the members in operative relation, the pintle member being shown in dotted outline at the limit of its movement in one direction.
Fig. 12 represents a front elevation of the same.
The hinge in all the forms shown in the drawings comprises two members denoted by I Lment with the slot 5 of the knuckle 3. Upon the member 2 being moved downwardly, as shown by the arrow in Fig. 4, the neck 8 will engage the knuckle 4 and register with the space 10 between the knuckles, whereup on either member may be swung arcuately and limited in movement by a stop 11 fixed on the knuckles 3, .4. .In Fig. 5 the pintle member 2 is shown in dotted outline swung to the stop 11. In the form shown in Figs. 7 to 12 inclusive, the member 1 is provided with knuckles 12, 13 having vertical slots 14, 15 arranged approximately at an angle of 90o from the leaf 16.A The member 2vis provided with a pintle 17 attached to a leaf 18 by a neck 19 which rides in the space 20 between the knuckles 12, 13. The movement ot the members is limited by a stop 21l carried by the knuckles 12, 13.
In all the forms shown. it will be seen that the members 1 and 2 are interlocked and can onlyy be, disengaged at the point where the slots are located in the knuckles.
It will also be understood that the stops may be located at various positions on the knuckles to afford difierent movements of the members.
It is obvious that various changes may be resorted to in the form. construction and arrangement o'f the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; and hence I do not intend to be limiteewthe dem-ils herein showmnd de'- scribed', except asn they may A be included in the claims.A
What'I claimv is:
1. In a '.separable'hinge, the combination with. a :knuckle member and,v a member rhevinga; intle connected@ thereto by'a neck, said knuck e member being providedI Awith a. slot for the receptiony and7 removal of said neck, of a laterally projectingstopfon. thefknpckle member adaptedtobe engagedr by the pintle member'for limit-ing, the movementy of the 2.. In ay separable hinge, the combination with a knuckle member andy ev member having a pntle connected thereto by sneek, said knuckle member being provided with a slot forthe reception and removal of said neck, of a laterally projecting stopv formed integraly with the knuckle member and adapted to be engaged by the pintle member for v limiting the movement of the members.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this 22nd day of September, 1919.
ROBERT; STOCK.
