To all whom it may concern: lie it known that I, HORACE R. Ennis, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meadville, in the county of Crawford and seat bf Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful ln' provements in Sectional-lWihdow $creen Locks, of whichthe following is a specification.
@ihis invention relates to a sectional win do wscreon lock and has for its object to providea device of such class, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, with means for looking the sections of a window screen in position within the frameof awindow.
fFurther objects of the invention are to pi'oyi dtla, in .manner as hereinafter set forth, asectional window screen look, which is siinplein its construction and arrange ,mentpstrong, durable, compact, thoroughly efficient and convenient in its use, readily installed with respect to the sections of the screemnnd inexpensive to manufacture.
Withthe foregoing and other objects in .View theinvention consistsof the novel con- .strnction, combination and arrangement of ;parts,;as hereinafter more specifically de scribed andillustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment ioftheiinvention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 denotes awindowsash, 2 the window frame provided'with a pair of opposed sockets 3, 4C, l

The sections of the screen are coupled together through the medium of a pair of combined guide and connecting rods operating through keepers 10 and formed with stops 11. The rods 9are secured to theinner side of the top and bottom rails of the screen section '6, as at 12, and
the keepers '10 are carried by the top and bottom rails of the screen section 5. The end rail of each of the screen sections is provided with a protuberance 13, which extends into one of the sockets 8 or 1 for positionmg and connecting a screen section to one side of the window frame. The "foregoing elements areillustrated by way of example to showthe adaptation of a locking device in accordance with this invention withre spect to the sections of a sectional window screen.

The anchoring .membcr 1 1 is secured to the end bar 19 of the screen section 5, and the anchoring member 15-is secured to the end bar 20 of the screen section 6. The
members 1 1 and 15 are positioned substantially centrally with respect to theinner side of the said bars 19, 20. i
The anchoring member 14:, as well as the anchoring member 15 consists of a short plate 21 provided at one end with a pair of oppositely extending flanges 22, 23, each formed with an openin The otherend of the plate 21is rounded, as at 25, andsaid plate 21, in proximity to the end 25, is formed with a polygonal-shaped socket26.
Each ofthe anchoring members is secured in position. through the medium of a pair of hold-fast devices 27, which extend through the flanges 22, 23 and engage in an end bar ofa screen section. The heads ofthe hold fast devices 27 seat inthe openings 24 and saidheads are then soldered over, as indicated at 27,.Figure 2, to prevent removal of the hold-fast devices.
The locking bar 16 comprises a polygonalshaped outer end portion 28 corresponding in contour to the shape of a socket 26 and adapted to seat therein, a cylindrical intermediate portion 29 and a peripherally threaded cylindrical inner end portion 30 of materially less diameter than the portion 29. The polygonal-shaped outer portion 28, when mounted in the socket p events turning of the bar 16 when the latter is in looking position.
The locking bar 17' consists of a polygoal-shaped portion 30 oi the same contour as a socket 226 and which is adapted to seat in said socket, and a cylindrical portion 31 of greater length than the portion 30 and which is formed with a socket 32 c1? a length to receive the portion 30 of the bar 16. The polygonahshaped portion 3O 01 the bar ll when seated n the socket 26 prevents the turning of the bar 1? when in looking position.
'lhe locking device comprises an oval shaped nut 33, which is mounted eccentrically on the portion 30 of the bar 16 and has threaded engagement therewith. The nut 33 is adjustable lengthwise with respect to the inner portion 30 of he bar 16 and said nut is furthermore provided with an open ing 3 lspaced a substantial distance from that part the nut 33 which has threaded engagement with the portion 30 of the bar 16. Formed integral with the inner end of the portion 3i of the bar 1?,is a small plate 35 which corresponds in shape to the shape of the nut and said plate is formed with a pair of spaced openings 36, 37. The opening 36 registers with the socket 32 and is provider. for the passage of the portion 30 of the bar 16 into the socket 32. The opening 37 is adapted to register with the opening oi? the nut and when said openings are in registering position the hasp or shackle 33 of a lock is extended through said openings to lock the bars 16 and 17 to prevent the shifting or one relatively to the other. I
When using a locking device, in accordance with this invention, the screen 7 is po sitioned in the frame 2 and the protuberances l3 seated in the sockets 3, and which prevent the sections of the screen from be ing pushed out. The steps 3 prevent the sash from. being lowered past the screen. The polygona shaped portion 28 ot the bar 16 is then if d in the socket 526 of the anchoring member l-ai. The locking bar 17 is then shifted on the portion 30 of the bar 16, until the polygonal-shapcd portion 30 of the bar 17 seated in the socket 526 of the member 15. The nut 33 is then revolved on the threads oi the portion 30 of the bar 16, until said nut is moved to abut against the plate 35 and with the opening 3a in alignnicnt with the opening 35. The nut 33 and plate 35 are then secured together by the hasp or shackle 33 of the lock 39. The

If the screen body is cut-out the locking bar remains in position to extend transversely of the window and set up a bar extending thereacross and will remain in such position until the :trame sections of the screen are smashed, By the foregoing arrangement, the screen is securely locked in the window frame, lue to the fact that the sections of the frame cannot be shifted towards or will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
lVhat I claim is 1- 1. A locking device for the sections oi a window screen comprising a pair oi telescopic locking bars adjustable relatively to each other and each adapted to be secured to one of the sections of the screen, an adjustable nut threadedly engaging with one of said bars, extended therefrom and having its extended portion provided with an opening spaced from said bar, a fixed plate secured to and extended from the inner end of the other of said bars and having its extended portion provided with an opening for registration with the opening in said nut, and means extending through the registered openings for coupling the nut and plate together thereby maintaining the said bars in adjusted position.
2. A locking device for the sections of a window screen comprising a pair of anchoring members, each adapted to be secured to a screen section, a pair of telescopic locking bars adjustable relatively to each other and each having its outer end anchored in one of said members, an adjustable nut threadedly engaging with one of said bars, 6X- tended therefrom and having its extended portion provided with an opening spaced from said bar, a fixed plate secured to and extended from the inner end of the other oi said bars and having its extended portion provided with an opening for registration with the opening in said nut, and means extending through the registering openings for coupling the nut and plate together thereby maintaining the said bars in adjusted position.
3. A locking device for a section of a window screen comprising a pair of telescopic locking bars adjustable relatively to each other and each adapted to be secured to a screen section, one of said bars provided with a lengthwise extending socket, an apertured plate secured to the inner end of said her, extended therefrom and having its extended portion formed of an'opening, the other of said bars formed with a reduced peripherally threaded portion extending through said plate into said socket, an adjustable nut threadedly engaging with said reduced portion and further extended therefrom and having its extended part formed With an opening adapted to register with the opening in said plate, and means extendlng through the registered openings tor connecting the nut and plate together and each other and each adapted to be secured a to a screen section, one of said bars provided With a lengthwlse extendlng socket, an apertured plate secured to the mner end of said bar, extended therefrom and having its extended portion formed of an opening, the other of said bars formed With a reduced peripherally threaded portion extending through said plate into said socket, an adjustable nut threadedly engaging With said reduced portion and further extended there from and having its extended part formed With an opening adapted to register With the opening in said. plate, means extending through the registered openings for connecting the nut and platetogether and for maintaining the said bars in adjusted position, and anchoring members having the outer ends of said bars extended therein and providing means for connecting the bars to the screen section. i
