A portion-of the current flowing in the conductor 18 also passes through the electro-n'iagnet 12,.branch conductor 18, conductors 29 and to the core 2 1- and thence to the negative pole oi the battery, thereby maintaining closed the circuit of the battery 31 in the event the rod 13 is disconnected from the contact 16. The flow of current through the conductor 18 energizes the electro-magnet 12 which draws up the armature 11 out of engage ment with the finger 10, whereby the rollers 3 and 7 are released and the curtain quickly drawn across the window by the unwinding of the springs 9 and9. The engagement of the armature 11 with the core of the electro-magnet 12 closes the circuit of the battery 31 through the shocking vibrator 35, which isthereby operated anddischarges electricity through the branch conductor 36 bracket 4, roller 3 to the curtain 5,, and through the conductor 37 to ground and through the conductor 38 to the tin foil 39. Consequently when an intruder touches the charged curtain the circuit of the vi brator is closed through the tin foil, or ground, and the intruder receives a severe shock and is held fast to the curtain.
Having described my invention, I claim: 1. In a protective system of the character described, the combination with a closure, of a curtain, means for operating said curtain, and mechanism comprising an automatically movable device normally restrained from movement by said closure for rendering said operating means inoperative.
2. In a protective system of the character described, the combination with a closure,
of a curtain,*1neans for automatically moving said curtain, and electro-magneti mechanism for controlling said means and comprising a circuit normally held open by the engagement of a member thereof with said closure. 7
3. In a protective system of the character described, the combination with a sheet of material, ot a curtain, means for automatically operating said curtain, electro-magnetic mechanism for controlling said means and comprising a circuit containing a movable contact member adapted to be actuated by the disturbance 0t said sheet of material, and means for electrically charging said curtain.
i. In a protective system of the character described, the combination with a closure, of a curtain comprising conducting material, and means comprising a device actuated by the disturbance of said closure for electrically charging said curtain.
5. The combination with a closure,of a protective system comprising an electric circuit and means for controlling it and a sec ond circuit controlled by said first named circuit and comprising a shocking vibrator, normally disconnected conductors electrically connected with said vibrator, and a member adjacent to said closure to which electricity is discharged when said last named conductors are connected.
6. In a protective systemot the character described, an electric circuit containing electro-magnetic mechanism, means for controlling said circuit, a second circuit controlled by said electro-magnetic mechanism and containing a shocking vibrator, and a conducting curtain, connected with said vibrator. y
