5. R PRUYN CIGARETTE RQLLER AND MAKER Filed June 12, 1923 a wax/29217194 Ill] Patented Apr. 21, 1925.
I UNITED STATES SAMUEL n. PRUYN, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CIGARETTE ROLLER AND MAKER.
Application filed June 12, 1923.
T 0 all ii /1.0m it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL R. PRUYN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois,.have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Cigarette Roller and Maker, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to new and useful improvements in a cigarette roller and maker, and has for its object the provision of means for properly and conveniently rolling and filling a cigarette and a further object is to provide such means which is simple and inexpensive and an be conveniently carried in the pocket.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
F 1 is a plan view of the complete de vice with the cigarette paper properly kn-mod on the roller or stem and held in position in the tubular filler case;
F 2 is a longitudinal section on line i -2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail view, and
Fig. 4- is a cross section on l ne a t of Fig. 2.
The form in which I have illustra ed my invention comprises a cigarette shaped roller or stem '7 on which the cigarette paper 8 is rolled into cigarette form. A cylindrical or tubular member 9 is provided which receives said stem with the paper rolled thereon, and contains a slot 10 through which the outer edge 8 of the paper may be moistened and pressed down to fasten it in position, but said outer edge of paper may also be moistened and fastened down while on the stem 7 and before said stem and paper are placed in the tubular member 9. A funnel-shaped portion or flared mouth 11 is provided on one end of said member 9, in order that the tobacco may be conveniently placed into the rolled paper 8 while held in the tubular member 9 and after removal of the stem 7. This funnel-shaped portion 11 is preferably formed integral. with member 9, but may be otherwise provided thereon. A chain or similar flexible member 1:2- is fastened on one end of stem 7 and on member 9 Serial No. 6%,972.
to permanently connect said stem and memher and prevent accidental loss thereof.
lVh en it is desired to make a cigarette the paper is rolled on the stem or roller 7 and with it inserted in the tubular member 9, and the edge 8 is moistened through the slot 10 and fastened down, unless it has previously been moistened and fastened in position; the stem 7 is then withdrawn and. the protruding end of the paper 8, as best shown in Fig. 3, is pressed over with the finger to close the same at this end of member 9, whereupon the tobacco is inserted through the funnel-shaped or flared mouth 11 into the cigarette through the open upper end thereof, and the cigarette is then withdrawn as a substantially perfectly formed cigar ette. The stem is inserted in the tubular member and may be conveniently carried in the pocket.
\Vhilc I have shown and described a particular form of my invention, it will be understood that this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction disclosed, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device for making cigarettes, comprising means on which to roll paper into cigarette shape, and tubular means for receiving and holding said rolled paper for conveniently filling the same, said. tubular means being arranged for conveniently moistening and fastening down the outer edge of said paper while in said tubular means.
2. A device for making cigarettes, comprising a stem on which the paper is rolled into cigarette form; a tubular member for receiving and holding said rolled paper, said tubular member having an opening through which the outer edge of said paper may be moistened and fasteneddown, and means on said tubular member for conveniently filling said rolled paper.
3. A device for rolling and filling cigarettes, comprising a stem on which the paper is rolled into shape, a tube for receiving said stem and rolled paper, said tube having a slot through which the outer edge of said paper may be moistened and fastened down,
and a flared mouth on the end of said tube through which to fill said rolled paper with tobacco when the stem is withdrawn.
4. A device for rolling and filling cigar ettes, comprising a tubular member open at the lower end and having a flared receiving mouth integral with the upper end, a stem for rolling cigarette paper thereon, said stem fitting in said member and. being removable through said lower end, and fiexis ble means permanently connecting said stem and member to permit withdrawal of said stem.
5. A device for rolling and filling cigarettes, comprising a stem on which the pa-
