- Be it known that I, ALBERT J. GURNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of -Uhio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Hangers, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved wire hanger of the'general character disclosed in tion ofthe jaws while said adjusting means 20 may be repaired or renewed without the necessity for repairing or renewing the jaws. j Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter.

In c-arrying'the invention into effect, I employ a pair of mat- ingoblong jaws 10 and 11 which are grooved at their lower margins, as aty12, to receive a wire, as forinstance,

Above the groove 12, the jaws are shaped to form a closed barrel 14 and extending from the endwalls of the barrel are alined tapered nipples 15 'having smooth outer faces, ahalf 'of each nipple being'integral with each jaw respectively. Formedon the end wall portions ofthe jaw ll' are, as shown in Figure "3, pairs of projecting centering lugs 16 abutting the enema portions of the jaw 10 at their inner sides for locking the jaws against relative movement andrising from the aw 10 medially thereof isaninternally threaded sleeve 17 while the j awis similar] provided with an upstanding flange or hal collar 18 fitting said sleeve. transversely of the barrel portions of the jaws from the base end of said sleeve and collar portion are pairs of alined reinforcing webs 19 notched to define openings registering with the nipples 15.

The rod 20 is formed to receive a wire insulator '22 therethrough which insulator'may accommodate a signal wire, or thelike, as conventionallyillus trated at 23. Thus, as will be seen, the nuts 21 may be adjusted upon the rod 20 over the nipples 15 for drawing the jaws 10 and 11. toward each other clamping the jaws in engagement with the wire 13 as well as, in engagement with the rod 20 for rigidly'supporting the wires 13 and 23 in spaced relation.
In use, a supporting insulator, as conventionally illustrated at 2 1, will be preferably provided ,in. conjunction with the hanger. This insulator may be of any approved type but will include a threaded stud 25 to accommodate the sleeve 17 of the jaw 10. Thus, the sleeve maybe screwed upon the stud for mounting the jaw 19 when, after the wire 13 and wire 23, with the insulator 22, 'rod' 20 and nuts 21 have been arranged in position, the jaw 11 may be assembled with the jaw 10 and the nuts 21 adjusted, as previously indicated, for
tightly clamping the parts together. v,
Attention is now directed to the fact that since the nuts 21 are formed with smooth internal faces to coact with the smooth external faces of the nipples 15, while said rod and, will be appreciated, these-parts the tubular rod 20 directly in contact therewith. Thus, under such conditions, the hanger will provide a direct electrical connection between the wires for distributing the current from the feed wire to the trolley wire.
In some instances, it may prove desirable to use the hanger in conjunction with a single wire and to meet such a situation, I accordingly provide a slightly different embodiment of the invention, as illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawings, wherein a solid .rod 26 is employed in lieu of the tubular rod 20 as illustrated in connection with the prior embodiment of the invention. The rod 26 is formed to extend through the nipples 15 between the jaws 10 and 11 and is threaded at its ends to receive the nuts 21 which, as will be appreciated in view of the foregoing description, may be adjusted over the nipples for drawing the jaws together and clamping a wire, as conventionally illustrated at 27, between the lower margins of the aws in the groove 12.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire, and rotatable independently adjustable means slidably coacting with the jaws securing the jaws together.
2. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and formed to receive a second wire therebetween, and rotatable means slidably coacting with the jaws securing the jaws together.
3. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and provided at their ends with projections, and rotatable independently adjustable means slidablycoacting with said projections securing the jaws together. 4. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and formed to receive a second wire therebetween, the jaws being provided at their ends with projections, and rotatable means slidably coacting with said projections securing the jaws together.
*5. A hanger of the character described including coactlng jaws provided with portions projecting from the ends of the jaws longitudinally thereof, and independently adjustable means slidably coacting with said jaw portions securing the jaws together.
6. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws provided with portions projecting from the ends of the jaws longitudinally thereof, and independently adjustable means slidably coacting with said jaw portions wedging the aws toward each other.
7 A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws provided with portions projecting from the ends of the jaws longitudinally thereof, and independently adjustable means fitting over said jaw portions slidably coacting therewith wedging the jaws toward each other.
8. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws provided at their ends with nipple portions mating to define nipples at the extremities of the jaws, and independently adjustable means slidably fitting over said nipples securing the jaws together.
9. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire, companion independently adjustable means at the ends of the jaws securing the jaws together, and means independent of the jaws mounting said securing means.
10. Ahanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire, independently adjustable means wedging the jaws toward each other, and means independent of the jaws mounting said wedgingmeans.
11. Ahanger of the character described including coacting-jaws, companion independently adjustable means at the ends of-the jaws securing the aws together, and means accommodated between the jaws mounting said securing means.
12. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire, independently adjustable means to coact with the jaws for drawing the jaws together, and means accommodated between the jaws adjustably mounting said first mentioned means.
13. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and provided with portions projecting at the ends of the jaws longitudinally thereof, independently adjustable means slidably coacting with said jaw portions securing the jaws together, and means accommodated between the jaws adjustably mounting said securing means.
14. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and provided with portions projecting at the ends of the aws longitudinally thereof, independently adjustable means coacting with Said jaw portions wedging the jaws toward each other, and means accommodated be.- tween the jaws adjustably mounting said wedging means.
15. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and provided at their ends with nipple portions mating to form nipples at the extremities of the jaws, independently adjustable means coacting with. said nipples securing the jaws together, and means accommodated between the jaws mounting said securing means.
16. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and provided at their ends with nipple portions mating to form nipples at the extremities of the jaws, independently adjustable means fitting over said nipples slidably coacting therewith and securing the jaws together, and means accommodated between the jaws adjustably mounting said securing means.
17. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws formed to receive an insulator therebetween accommodating a wire, means securing the jaws together, and means independent of the jaws mounting said securing means.
18. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and formed to receive an insulator therebetween accommodating a second wire, means securing the jaws together, and means independent of the jaws mounting said securing means.
19. A hanger of the character described. including coacting jaws to engage a wire, a rod accommodated between the jaws, and
means mounted on said rod securing the jaws together and independently adjustable on the rod.
20. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and provided at their ends with nipple portions mating to define nipples at the extremities of the jaws, a rod accommodated between the jaws extending through said nipples, and nuts mounted upon the ends of the rod and independently adjustable over said nipples for securing the aws together.
21. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws to engage a wire and provided at their ends with nipple portions mating to define tapered nipples at the extremities of the jaws, a rod accommodated between the aws extending through said nipples and nuts internally tapered to fit over said nipples and adjustable upon the rod for securing the jaws together.
22. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws, a tubular rod accommodated between the jaws, and means mounted on said rod securing the jaws together.
23. A hanger of the character described including coacting jaws, a tubular rod accommodated between the jaws, means mounted on said rod securing the jaws together, and an insulator accommodated by said rod and adapted to receive a wire therethrough.
