UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL A. OLSON, OF PLAINVILLE, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR, TO THE HUMASQN MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF FOR-ESTVILLE, CONNECTICUT, A OQRPORATION.
ARM BAND AND THE LIKE.
Application filed August 4, 1921.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL A. Orson, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Plainville, county ofHarttord, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ann Bands and the like, of which the following is a specifica tion.
This invention relates to articles such as arm bands or garters oi the type having an elastic band fo'ined of a helical or coiled spring.
The aim of the present invention is to pro vide a novel and simple device of this sort, and particularly to provide cheap and effective means for connecting together the ends of the bandln the accon'i n-inying drawing, wherein for illustrative purposes the invention is shown as applied to an arm band,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view,
Fig. 2 is an inside or rear view of the member connecting the ends of the band together, and
Figs. 3 and t are sectional views respectively taken on lines 33, 4-4: of Fig.
Referring to the drawing in detail a denotes a band in the form of a coiled or helical spring which is preferably flattened so that the band is oblong or oval in transverse section. I) denotes generally the means for connecting the ends of thespring ato gether. In the present instance, this means is given the form of a button con'iprising a sheet metal back plate 10 and a covering or finishing plate 11-. The plate 10 is pro vided with a bridge 12 which is preferably formed by cutting two parallel slits in the plate and then bending out the portion between these slits. The respective ends 13, 14C of the wire forming the band (a extend Serial No. 439,872.
in opposite directions, as most clearly shown in Fig. These ends are'inserted through the bridge 12 in opposite directions and then this bridge is pressed or flattened down so as to securely clamp the ends 13, 14. of the spring in place. Preferably the bridge at its central portion is slightly depressed as at 15 and the ends of the spring are slightly bent down into the opening 16 in the attaching plate to more ell'ectivelv clamp'the ends of the spring band in place.
It will be seen that the present invention provides an arm band or the like which is very simple in structure, which may be very cheaply manufactured, and wherein the ends of the spring band are connected together very secnrely.
it is, of course, obvious that the invention 7 is susceptible 0i. various modifications and changes which are within the spirit of the invention without departing lroin the scope of the following claims, it being understood that the present disclosure of the invention is by way of illustration only and it is not to be taken as restrictive of our conception;
I claim as my invention 1. In a device of the character described,-
a coiled wire band having its ends extending in opposite directions, and a plate having an integral bridge receiving and clamping said ends against said plate.
.2. In a device of the diameter described, a plate having a bridge integral at each end with said plate and an opening under said bridge, and a coiled wire band having its ends received by said bridge. said ends of said band being clamped between said bridge and the edges of said opening and being bowed into said opening, substantially as described.
