Description

Patented Api; 14, 1925,
' JAMES BROWNLEE. 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
TOY.
Application led February 14, 1922. Serial No. 536,440.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I. JAMES BROWNLHE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Toy. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and has tor its object the provision ot a toy embodying a swingingly supported figure adapted to be struck by the projectile ot a toy gun so as to swing the figure downwardly, the figure having its lower portion or feet weighted so that it will cause the figure to promptly return to an upright position.
A further object is to provide a toy which is of highly simplified construction, neat in appearance and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same.
Figure 1 is a perspective ot the improved toy.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of a toy gun and a supporting means therefor.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose ot illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates a base having one end portion provided with a pair of spaced parallel standards 6 to which the ends of the cross bar 7 are connected. The standards 6 are braced by rods 8 inclined downwardly toward one endof the base and secured to the longitudinal edge portions of the base.
A figure 10 in the form of a boy is seated on the cross bar 7 and is provided with` hands 11 which are secured to the cross bar on opposite sides of the body of the ligure. The feet 12 of the figure are weighted so that when the figure is swung downwardly or is inverted the weighted feet will cause the figure to promptly return to an upright position.
Y As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 a gun supporting standard 15 is mounted at one end of the base and includes upper and lower telescopic sections 17 and 18 respectively, the said sections being adjustably connected by means of-al fastening device 19 inthe nature of a thumbnut. Suitable bracing rods 2O are employed to secure the `gun sup-porting standard 1,5 in position on In operation the projectile is placed within the barrel of the gun and by `pulling the trigger 35 the projectile will be shot at the ligure so that the figure will be knocked over. As previously stated the weighted feet 12 of the figure will cause the ligure to promptly return to an upright position. Having' thus described the invention yvhat I claim is l A toy ot the class described comprisin a base. standards mounted thereon, a rotata le crosshar carried by the upper ends of said standards, a figure seated on the crossbar and having hands gripping the same, said figure being provided with weighted feet forming a means whereby the figure is promptly returned to an upright position,
bracing members supporting said standards,- A
a gun adapted for firing a projectile in the direction of the figure, an extensible standard carried by said base and adaptedvfor supporting said gun, and means provided on the uppermost portion of said extensible standard for adjusting the gun to any desired range.
In testimon whereof, I have aixed my signature in .t e presence of two witnesses.
l JAMES BROWNLEE.
