Be it known that I, J ACK Voss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boydon, in the county of Sioux and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Exhaust-Gas Remover, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a novel means for, removing the exhaust gases of an inio ternal combustion engine while the engine is running when the vehicle is in a garage undergoing repairs.
It is a well known fact that when the engine of automobiles is running while in a garage or the like, carbon-monoxide gases are formed and oftentimes the person or persons working on the car inhale the poisonous gases and frequently become asphyxiated. The present invention provides a means for conducting the exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine of an automobile undergoing repair outwardly of the garage so that the mechanic or person working on the automobile will not inhale the poisonous gases.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is of such construction as to enable the same to be readily and easily attached in position without the loss of any considerable length of time and labor.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, wherein a suction fan is associated with the exhaust gas receiving pipe for conducting the exhaust gases therethrough and emitting the same outwardly of the garage.
A still further object is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following descri tion.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates an elongated pipe or conduit which is supported on the standard 2 the latter extending upwardly from the wheeled platform or base 3 in spaced relation. The conduit or pipe 1 extends horizontally and is adapted for vertical adjustment on the standrads 2 by means of the adjusting nuts 4 carried by the conduit and operating in suitable longitudinally extending slots 5 provided in the upper portions of the standards. The forward end of the conduit 1 is adapted to he brought into close proximity and in communication with the discharge end of the exhaust gas pipe of an internal combustion engine so that the ex-' haust gases from the internal combustion engine of an automobile will pass outwardly through the outer end of the exhaust pipe 6 and into the conduit or pipe 1.
Supported in the frame 7 is the horizontally extending drum 8 the supporting means therefor being illustrated at 9. The forward end of the drum is provided with the conical head 9 as is also the rear end of the drum 1, the latter being illustrated at 10. A flexible hose. 11 has a connection between the conical heads 9 and 10 of the drum 8 and the conduit 1 respectively where by the drum is adapted for communication with the conduit for the purposes to be presently described. Any suitable means may be associated with the ends of the hose for securing the same in engagement with the conical heads of the drum and conduit respectively. The drum is preferably located at a point remote from the conduit and the frame which supports the drum is placed outside of the door of the garage or building in which the automobile is located. The bottom of the drum 8 is provided with a slot. which extends forwardly from the open end of the drum and the purpose thereof is to provide a means whereby the base 13 of any well known type of suction fan designated generally by the numeral 14 may be inserted within the drum so as to maintain the position shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. Arranged on the opposite side of the slot 12 are the guides 15 and 16 respectively. Slidable between the guides 15 and 16 is same between the guide in the manner as is obvious from the construction shown.
In use, the parts are arranged as shown in Figure l-wherein the forward end of the.

The exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine which is being tested or repaired in the garage will pass outwardly through the exhaust pipe into the conduit 1 and the suction fan 14: being turned on, will force the exhaust gases out through the drum 8 thereby carrying with the exhaust gases the carbon-monoxide gas. IVhile I have shown the p eferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the in vention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is In combination, a frame, a drum mounted in the frame and provided with a slot leading inwardly from one end, guides arranged alongside of the slot, a fan disposed within the drum and including a pedestal extending through the slot and supported on the frame,
