Description

H. HOPP ET AL PRICE TICKET HOLDER Filed Feb. 27, 1924 WITNESSES IN VEN TORS jiermarzn Hbpp Leo J-[O P BY A TTORNEYS Patented Apr. 7, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. Application filed February 27, 1984. Serial No. 695,588.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HERMANN Horr and LEO Horr, both citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York. have invented a new and Improved Price-Ticket Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in display devices, and it pertains more particularly to a means for supporting price ticket holders.
It is one of the primary objects of the invention to provide a price ticket holder which is rigid in construction.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the ,device in such a manner that when pressure is applied to the ticket holder the securing means thereof will be forced to puncture the article to which the holder is applied.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the device in such a manner that relatively light materials may be used without sacrificing strength and rigidity.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention; 1
Fig. 2 is a. view in rear elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4-. is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the device comprises a card or ticket supporting member 5 of conventional type, and said card or ticket. holder 5 is adapted to be supported by suitable attaching means in the form of prongs or the like, 6. As more clearly shown in Fig. 2, these prongs 6 are formed preferably from a. single piece of material bent, as at 7, to providea substantially U-shaped member, and the free ends of the U-shaped member are sharpened, as at 8, in order to cause the prongs more readily to pierce the article to which the device is adapted to be attached. The card or ticket holder 5 is provided with a plurality of depressed or otherwise formed ears or dislike, 10, and the U-shaped member is adapted to be passed between said ears and the body of the card or ticket holder 5, with the bight in contact with an ear of each pair of the cars 10, as shown in Fig. 2. After this has been done, the prongs 6 are offset as designated at 11 in Fi 3 and 4, and such offset portion provi es a stop or rest for the card or ticket holder 5, and in a manner to be hereinafter described.
The device is used in the following manner:
The card or ticket holder is grasped and the sharpened ends of the prongs 8 are engaged with the article to which the device is to be attached, as. for example, a piece of meat. Upon applying pressure to the card or ticket holder 5, to cause the sharpened ends of the prongs 6 to puncture the meat, there is a tendency of the device to move relatively to the prongs 6 since the cars 10, owing to the light material from which the ticket holder is formed, cannot be caused to engage the prongs with sulficient friction to prevent movement thereof relatively to the card or ticket holder 5. Upon this movement, however, the lower edge of the card or ticket holder 5 moves into engagement with the ofi'set portions of the prongs, 11, and thus transmits the pressure from the card or ticket holder 5 to the prongs 6, and cause their sharpened ends to pierce the article to which the device is attached sufliciently to support the device.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the structure provides a device which is so formed as to permit of the use of relatively light materials, and, at the same time, due to the offset portion of the piercing prongs 6, sufficient strain toposition the device without rupturing the several parts thereof.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character described comprising a card or ticket holder having spaced pairs of aligned loops, a piercing element constituting a support for said holder and attached thereto, said piercing element consisting of a single piece of material and being bent and formed to provide a central portion and pointed prongs and offsets, each prong extending through a pair of said loops, the offsets being in contact with one edge of said holder, and the central portion being in contact with a loop of each pair.
