HAIR RETAINER.
Application filed November 18, 1924. Serial No. 750,567.
the hair on the head of a wearer to normally retain in proper position front locks of hair depending over the sides of the head of said wearer.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved hair retainer for bobbed hair.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved hair retainer for bobbed hair that shall be adapted to normally retain in position the front side locks of hair, depending from the head of a wearer.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved device of the character set forth that shall be simple and-economical in structure and easily applied and held in position.
I accomplish these and other objects by means of the improved device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present specification wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar parts throughout the said specification and drawings, and in which Fig. 1 is a profile view of a girl having bobbed hair and disclosing my invention applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hair retainer removed from the head; and
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the device, disclosing the structure thereof in greater detail.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 is used to designate in general a preferably arcuate band which may be made of any suitable semi-flexible material, such as celluloid, vulcanized rubber, tortoise shell, metal or the like, or of any suitable material for the manufacture of hair ornaments.
The band 1 is arranged to fit around the back portion of the head of a wearer and said band 1 is provided at approximately its central back portion and on the upper edge thereof with a toothed portion 2 said toothed portion 2 being bent inwardly from the arcuate band 1 and also downwardly in order that there shall be a slight spaced re lation between said toothed portion 2 and the arcuate band 1, the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully set forth.
The front or free ends of the arcuate band 1' are bent inwardly in respect to said arcuate band land in parallel relation therewith and also upwardly in respect to said band 1, in order to form loops 3 ar-- ranged to engage and normally retain in normal position the front side locks of hair 1 when the wearer shall, for any purpose, incline the head forward to any degree, in order that the face of said wearer shall be kept free from the annoyance of said locks of hair 4 and also for the further purpose of keeping the hair in order and in a neat condition. 1
The loops 3 have their ends slightly raised above the adjacent portions of the band 1 for two purposes, first, so that the locks of hair 1 may be more easily and conveniently engaged by said loops 3 and secondly, to' provide a more open loop in order that the hair may not be tightly engaged to indicate the presence of a retaining device. In other words, to permit the hair to lie in a more natural' manner and yet be effectively restrained under normal conditions.
For the same reason and purpose the toothed portion 2 of the band 1 is arranged in spaced relation to the back of the band 1. The said toothed portion 2 is provided to engage thehair at the back of the head of the wearer and as theband 1 is spaced away from said toothed portion 2 said band 1 will not be tightly depressed into the hair to indicate a restraining device and at the same time the rear portion of said band 1 will be supported and normally held in position by the toothed portion'2.
It is obvious that the band may be provided with any type or style of ornamentation without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters E atent is- 1. A hair retainer comprising an arcuate band arranged to fit around the back of the head of a wearer and having teeth formed integral therewith to engage the hair at the back of said head to normally retain said band in operative position, the front ends of said band being bent back inwardly with respect to said band to form loops arranged to engage and retain in position the front side locks of hair depending froin the head of said wearer. V
2; A hair retainer comprising an arciiate band arranged to fit aroundt-he hack of the head of a wearer and having a toothed portion formed integral withthe top edge of said hand and then bent inwardly and downwardly inside of said band to engage the hair at the bad: of the head to normally retain said band in operative position, the front ends of said band having inwardly turned loops formed therein to engage and itetainwin position front side locks of hair depending from the head of said wearer.
3, A hair retainer comprising an arcuate band arranged to fitaround the hack of the head of a wearer and having a toothed portion formed integrally with the upper edge ofsaid band at the hack center thereof, said toothed portion being hent downwardly and ini iardly' inside of said band 'to form de pending teeth toengage the hair at the back of the head to nori'iially retain said band in operative position, the front ends of said hand bein e bent inwardly; hac kwardly and upwardly to formloops to engage and retain in position front looks vof hair depending overthe side of the head of said wearer.
in witness whereof i hereunto set my signature.
