UNITED STATS 1,532,177 PATENTV OFFICE.
WILLIAM V. GIST, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO DE WITT C. MGCALL, JR., OF S'I. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
HOSE HOUSING.
Application filed March 28, 1924. semi No. 702,648.
To all whom it may conceive: j
Be it known that I, ILLIAM V. Grs'r, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose Housings, of which the following is a specilication. i
My invention is an improvement in hose housings yand it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of the invention isy to provide a device of simplified construction which affords facilities for supporting a garden hose or like elongated liexible article in coiled formation and in sheltered position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which is adapted to permit of the support the-rein of a length of hose without there being anynecessity of detaching the hose at one end from a source of water supply or like connection.
A further object of the invention is to provide a housing of the character described in which the length of hose may be placed in coiled formation quickly and easily and from which the hose may be partially or completely removed as desired.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a housing of the character described which affords facilities for supporting a length of hose so that water will drain therefrom and the hose will dry quickly and so that twisting or entangling of the couvolutions of the hose is obviated.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing the housing embodying the invention with a length of hose supported therein.
Figure 2 is a vertical section through the outer casing of the device with an inner casing and the hose thereon being shown partly in vertical section and partly in side elevation, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a supporting base which is comprised in the device.
A device embodying the invention comprises a substantially frusto-conical outer casing or shell l, a frusto-conical inner casing or frame 2, a base indicated generally at 3 and attaching brackets l carried by the base and secured to the inner casing 2 and the outer casing l for securing said casings upon the base in spaced concentric relation in respect to each other.
The outer casing or shell l is of greater length than the inner casing 2 and is provided at its upper and smaller end with a. relatively short substantially cylindrical portion l, The base 3 comprises a pair ofv fiat bars 5 crossed intermediate their length and having the crossed portions thereof secured together by a suitable fastening device, such as the rivet G. Each bar 5 is bent adjacent to its ends to extend in a general downward direction, as at 7, and then outward, as at 8, so that the portions 7-8 of the bars 5 constitute legs for supporting the major portions of the bars 5 in spaced parallel relation to any suitable horizontal supporting surface, as 9.
The end portions of the bars 5 of the base carry the attaching members t, each of which comprises an intermediate portion secured upon an end portion of one of the bars 5 and a pair of parallel end portions upstanding from thel intermediate portion and being slightly inclined inward or toward the axis of the base 3, the respective upstanding end portions of each of the attaching members 4C being spaced radially on the base. The outer casing or shell 1 re ceives the crossed intermediate portions of the base 3 and rests upon the downwardly turned portions 7 of the base supporting members, the outer casing or shell l also being in contact adjacent to its lower end with the outer upturned end portions of the attaching brackets fl and being secured to such outer upturned end portions by' fastening devices, such as the rivets 10. The inner casing 2 rests upon the body of the base with the lower end portion thereof in contact with and secured by rivets 1l or like fastening devices to the inner upturned end portions of the attaching members 4.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. The outer casing l serves as a protective shell While the inner casing or frame 2 and the annular portion of the base?) between the' casings l and 2 at the lower ends of the latter together form a support for a length of hose 12 or like ilexible elongated article7 the hose beingI disposed Within the space between the sheltering casing l and supporting casing 2 in coiled formation, the coils decreasing in diameter toward the upper end of the device and the lowermost coil resting upon the base 3. Since the base 3 is formed of crossed bars, it is obvious that the hose receiving space within the body is completely open at the upper end oll the device and. is partially open at the lower end ot thev device so that the hose may be disposed therein witlfiouft there being any necessity of d etaching the 'hose from a source of water suppl-y or other pipe connection. The nozzle .end oit thc hoseot course will be disposed uppermost and the nozzle may extend from the `cylindrical upper end portion of the outer casingin. position to be` conveniently grasped so that any desired portion oii the hose stored within the device may be withdrawn 'tor use. Thel body ot the base is in ettect a spider andi the s-pa-ces between the arms thereof permit the draining ot water from the coils ot hose and from the inner or supporting casing V2.
The outer casing l is provided with the cylindrical or flared upper end portion l so that the hose may bemanipulated with relatively great ease when it is desired to place the hose within the device or to with,- draw any desired portion of til-1e hose from posit-ion on. the supporting casing GbViOuSly, my invention is susceptible of embodiment in forms other than that illustherefore consider as my own all such modiiications and adaptations orf the Vform oi the device herein described as fairly 'tall within the scope o't' the appended claims.
l. A device ol the character described comprising a base, a tapering supporting member secured upon said base, a protective casing secured upon said base in encircling spaced relation, to said supportingl member, said casing being open at its upper end, said base comprising a pair ot bars crossed intermediate their ends and being provided with depending supporting portions,
2.1i device oit thc character described Comprising a substantially i'rustoeconical outer casing? a substantially conical inner casing adapted tobe .disposed within the outer casing in spaced concentric relation to the latter7 and a base on which said casings are supported-7 said base comprising a pair of bars crossed intern-iediate their length and having downwardly turned supporting end portions.
3.1i device ol the character described comprising a base7 a substantially trusteconical outer casing adapted to be supported on said base with the smaller end oi' the casing uppermost7 a substantially trastoconicalsupporting casing adapted to be supported on said base within the outer casing in spaced concentric relation to the latter, attaching membersr carried by said base `tor securing said casings to the base and for holding said casings in spaced parallel relation, sai-d outer casing extending above the lfevel of they inner easing and being {iai-ed' outward. at its upper end.
