UNITED STATES PATENT oFFicE.
THRASHING MACHINE.
Application filed March 5, 1923. Serial No. 622,863.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. Gnrrz- MACHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at K'elso Township, in the county of Sibley and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Thrashing Machine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to thrashers and aims to provide novel means for preventing the usual air blast employed in thrashing, from passing over the grain in the grain trough.
Another object of the inventionvis to provide means located at the rear of the ma chine for directing the air blast through the riddle, the means being adjustable to regulate the blast of air.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means to retain the sieve or riddle in a clean condition and free of chad.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise. embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View through a thrasher constructed in accord ance with the invention,
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view, through the thrasher, and
Figure 3 is a fragmental sectional view disclosing the means for holding the blade in various positions of adjustment.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates the body portion of the thrasher which includes an inclined bottom member 6 formed with a trough 7 adjacent to its upper end wherein the conveyor 8 operates to remove the grain therefrom.
Supported within the body portion is the usual guide 9 that supports one extremity of the riddle 10 which may be of any desired construction and operated in any suitable manner.
Positioned above the riddle is the usual chaffer 11 formed in the usual manner and supported by any desirable means, the chafier being preferably constructed of spaced bars.
The device forming the essence of the invention is located at the rear of the machine and is indicated at 12, the same being in the form of a board provided with shafts one of the shafts is relatively long and ac' commodates the lever 15 which is secured thereto to move the member 12 to various positions of adjustment. v v
A bolt indicated at 16' is carried by the lever 15 and moves through the curved el0ngated opening 17 of the keeper 18, a winged nut 19 being provided on the threaded end of the bolt, to secure the lever 15 in its positions of adjustment. It might be further stated that the thrasher operates in the usual manner, that is a blast of air is directed .against the underside of the riddle 10 while straw containing seed is fed onto the chaffer 11 to the end that the seed is released from the straw, the air blast passing .through the riddle blowing the straw and chaff out through the upper end ofthe thrasher.
When the member 12 has been moved to a position as shown by Figure 1 of the drawing, it is obvious that the air passing through the thrasher 'in a direction of the arrows as indicated by Figure 1 of the drawings, will strike the member 12 and be directed upwardly through the riddle 10, thereby preventing the air from passing over the ends of the riddle 10 and chatter 11.
In order that the member 12 may be operated from a point adjacent to one end of the machine, an operating rod 20 is provided, which rod has pivotal connection with the member 12 at a point adjacent to one end thereof, teeth 21 being formed in therod 20 at a point adjacent to the opposite end of the rod, which teeth cooperate with the pin 22 extending laterally from one wall of the body portion 5, whereby the member 12 maybe held against various positions of adjustment. 1 o
What I claim as new is In a thrasher, a body portion, a riddle supported in the body portion, a board disposed transversely of the body portion and In testimony that I claim the foregoing arranged under the riddle, means for pivotas my oWn I have hereto afiixed my signa ally connecting the board to the body porture in the presence of two Witnesses.
tion so that the upper edge of the board will HENRY F. GRITZ'MAC-HER.
