POSITIONING DEVICE FOR TUBE FRAMES.

Be it known that I, IVILLIAM W. ROBERT- SON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at lVorcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Positioning Device for Tube Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to looms of the Axminster type and particularly to means for positioning the tube frames by which the yarn spools are supported and the yarn is presented to the fabric.
It is the object of my invention to provide a simple construction by which the tube frames may be held from accidental engagement with the tube frame supporting device as the tube frames approach or recede from operative position.
In the preferred form, my invention acts as a spreader or positioner by which the tube frames are positively held away from accidental engagement by the supporting device.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of the invention is shown in the drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of parts of an Axminster loom embodying my improvements, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation taken along the line 22 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown a tube frame 10 mounted on chains 11 by which it is held and transported. Pulleys 12 are fixed on a freely rotatable shaft 13 and act as guides for the chains 11. Yarn spools 14; are mounted on the tube frames 10 in the usual manner and are provided with center bearing supports 15. The shaft 13 has an intermediate bearing 16 depending from a cross frame 17 secured to the loom frame 18.
All ofthe parts thus far described are substantially of the usual type and in themselves form no part of my invention which relates particularly to the provision of a positioning member or stand 20. This member 20 is shown in the form of a rod or bar which is in general of substantially U-shape and which is provided with enthe middle portion of the tube frame out wardly, as indicated in Fig. 2, as the tube. frame approaches operative position.
When in operative position, the tube frame is engaged by a supporting device 22 and the particular object of crowding or forcing the tube frames outward is to positively prevent engagement of the supporting device 22 and a tube frame 10 or the spools 14 thereon, as the tube frame approaches operative position. Such engagement has been heretofore more or less common in wide looms in which the tube frames are of such length that there is a substan tial in the middle portion thereof.
When thus engaged, the parts are liable to injury and it is very desirable that such engagement be positivel )revented. It will be noted that while the member 20 engages and forces outward a tube frame approaching operative osition, it is bent upward to clear a tube frame while in operative position. It may also be bent out-ward to engage a tube frame receding from operative position but this latter engagement is of less importance.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed otherwise than as set forth in .the claims but what I claim is I 1. In a loom, a plurality of yarn tube frames, means to transport said frames to and from operative position, a supporting device by which successive frames are pre sented to the fabric, and means engaging said tube frames between the ends thereof and crowding them from normal position to clear said supporting device as they approach operative position.
2. In a loom, a plurality of yarn tube frames, means to transport said frames to and from operative position, a supporting device by which successive frames are presented to the fabric, and fixed means to hold said frames from engagement by said supporting device until they are in operative position.
3. In a loom, a plurality of yarn tube f ames, means to transport said frames to and from operative position, a supporting device by which successive frames are presented to the fabrics, and means effective to displace said tube frames outward between their points of attachment to said transporting means.

In a loom, a plurality of \tUIl tube frames, means to transport said frames to and from operative position, a supporting device by which successive frames are presented to the fabric, said tube frames hav ing center'bearings for yarn spools, and a fixed member engaging one of said center bearings of each frame and forcing the a.- sociated tube frame from proximity to said supporting device as it movestoward operative position.
In a loom, a plurality of yarn tube frames, means to tarisport said frames to and from operative position, a supporting; device by which successive frames are presented to the fabric, said tube frames having center bearings for yarn spools, and a fixed member engaging one of said center bearings of each frame and forcing; the associated tube frame from proximity to said supporting device as it moves toward operative position.
6. In aloom, a plurality of yarn tube frames, means to transport said frames to and from operative position, a supporting device by which successive frames are presented to the fabric, said tube frames having center bearings for yarn spools, and a fixed member engaging one of said center bearings of each frame and forcing the associated tube frame from proximity to said supporting device as it moves toward and as it recedes from operative position.
