F2 METTL'E'R SCI-IN DEVICE FOR SINGEI NG THREADS OF ANY Kim) Patented eb. 17, 1925.
FRANZ ME'ITLER, SOHN, 0F ARTH, SWITZERLAND. i
, DEVICEFOR SINGEING THREADS OF ANY KIND.
Application filed Deccmber 23,1923. Serial No. 683,210.
To all 1071mm it may conceive:
Be it known that LFRANZ Mn'rrLnn, Sohn, a citizen 01 the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Arth (Ct. Schwyz), Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Singeing Threads of Any Kind, ofwhich the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The subject matter of the present invention is a device for singeing by means of a gas threads of any kind and which is characterized by the feature that for the purpose of obtaining an intense singeing action a tubular burner for the gas ,is provided through which the thread has to pass.
A. constructional example of the singeing device according to the present invention is illustrated 011 the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Fig. 1. is a vertical section through the device,
Fig. 2 is a vertical .section along line II II in Fig. 3, i
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section along line III-III in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 1 shows a general arrangement in elevation.
In the drawings 1 denotes an upright. cylindrical tube arranged inside a surrounding tube 2 and supported by the latter. Between the surrounding tube 2 and the inner tube 1 an annular space 3 which is closed at top and bottom is provided, to which a branch pipe 4 for supplying a combustible gas is connected, the latter being distributed over the space 3. The tube 1 is provided with several rows of radially disposed apertures 5 through which the gas passes. The burner formed in this manner is provided with a longitudinal slot 6 permitting the thread A to be introduced into the interior of the burner tube 1. The thread to be singed passes over guide rollers 7 so arranged that the thread is situated in thecentre of the tube and on being moved through the tube has to pass through the singeing flame formed by each row of apertures 5 which flame acts on and influences the outside of the thread. In this manner a one-side singeing action is nrevented. Through the open ends of the tube 1 and through the slot 6 a quantity of air reaches the interior of the tube 1 that is sufficient for sustaining a complete combustion of the gas.
The burner is fitted to a pipe 8 the lower end ofwhichis connected to a conduit 14 leading to an exhaust fan 15. Near the lower and the upper end of the burner the pipe 8 is provided with suction openings 9 and 10 respectivelythrough which the combastion gases and the charred fibres are removed. The burner is further protected by a cover 11 mounted in hinges 12 on the pipe 8 forming a chamber 13 around the burner, which chamber is in open communication with the suction aperture 10 of the pipe 8. This chamber is provided for the purpose of attaining an efficient removal of the residues ofthe singeing process even in case rough threads having long fibres are treated.
A plurality of the be arranged on one frame as is illustrated in Fig. 4. Two pipes 8 enclosing the burners proper are connected to an exhaust conduit 14 leading to a fan 15 and to branch tubes 4 of a conduit 16 for supplying a combustible gas. The thread A to be treated, which is unwound from a bobbin 17, arrangedjbelow each burner, passes over the lower guide roller 7, through the tube 1 and over the upper guide roller 7 to a winding device 18 by which the singed thread is wound upon reels 19.
