To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LnoNAnn L. LnsoiNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Stroudsburg, in the county of Monroe ant. State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in F ire-Door Pedals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to locomotive fire doors and more particularly to the operating pedals therefor.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a pedal, for the fire doors of locomotives, which can be adjusted to meet the demands of firemen in performing their duties.
With the aforesaid and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of elements to be hereinafter set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that the right is reserved to resort to such departures from the present disclosure as come within the scope of the claims.

In the present illustration of this invention, a conventional type of locomotive fire door is shown at A and, while the same is of the steam actuated type, it is important to state that the elements of this invention can readily be associated with any type of loco- ]924. Serial No. 704,511.

Pivotally secured as at 5 to the frame of the fire door A is a bracket 6 preferably having a laterally extending slot 7 adjacent its outer end and an aperture 8 at the other end thereof.
Journaled in the aperture 8 of the bracket 6 is a bolt 9 which is adapted to pivotally support the inner end of a lever 10. This lever is coupled adjacent its medial point to the bracket 6 by a threaded bolt 11 which passes through the slot 7 in the bracket and is retained in association therewith through the instrumentality of a threaded collar 12 preferably having a handle thereon. The lever 10 is provided with a series of spaced apertures 13 which are adapted to accommodate alug 1% formed on a pedal 15 having a hook 16 disposed on one edge thereof to overhang the lever for assisting the lug i l in maintaining a rigid connection between the lever and pedal. Should it be found nec essary to utilize additional hooks such as 16 they can be formed to lie on opposite sides of the lug 14 so as to engage opposite edges of the lever as shown in Fig. 6.
With this structure associated with a fire door of a locomotive the bracket 6 is pivoted so one end thereof will operate in the region of the fire door latch manipulating mechanism and, through the instrumentality of the bolts 9 and ll associated with the bracket, the lever 10 is not only susceptible of vertical adjustment relative to the bracket but it can be swung either to the right or left of the same without interfering with the operation of the adjusting element there for. In the utilization of the particular pedal with the lever variable leverage can be obtained on one side of the pivot 5 especially for the reason the pedal can be read ily disengaged from the lever to shorten or lengthen the same.
In the modified form shown in Figs. 8 and 9, a bracket 6 is shown, the same having a depending arm 7 provided with a series of apertures 7 arranged to ieceive a pin 8 adapted to retain the lever 10 in any desired vertical position so as to rock the bracket through the instrumentality of the pedal 15.
