E. A. BURBANK DI SPLAY RACK Filed Nov. 1,' 1922 Patented Jan. 6, 1925.
DISPLAY RACK.
Application filed November 1, 1922.
Z '0 alZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD A. BURBANK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to racks fordisplaying small articles; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed whereby a large number of articles of different kinds are displayed simultaneously and so that any of them can be removed and renewed without disturbing the others.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front View, partially in section, of a rack having four sides and constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is a front view of the top part of a modified form of rack, having three sides; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same.
A supporting base 6 is provided, and a vertical spindle 7 projects upwardly from this base. A frame having side plates 8 and upper and lower horizontal plates 9, is mounted to revolve on the spindle and base. The frame may have three or more side plates 8 arranged equidistant from the center spindle. Four side plates 8 are shown in Fig. 2, but the frame may-have five or six side plates if desired. The side plates are secured together at their edges, and also to the horizontal plates, by flanges and solder, or in any other approved way.
Each side plate is provided with fastening devices for supporting articles one above another. Holes 10 are preferably formed in the side plates, and 11 are hooks adapted to support articles. These hooks engage with the holes 10, and may be removed, and they have spring clips or clasps 12 for engaging with the articles, so that the articles can be removed without removingthe hooks. The backs of the clips are flat so that they bear against the flat sides of the plates, and the hooks are formed at the top edges of their backs.
The clips 12 may be soldered to the side plates, if desired, as shown at 12 in Fig. 1; or any other approved form of fastening Serial No. 598,371.
devices may be used instead of the hooks or clips. The rack is advantageously used for displaying small bags of salted peanuts.
Each side plate 8 has a label holder 14 at its top, which is formed of a spring plate having an offset flange 15 secured to the back of the side plate, and the label or price ticket is held between the two paralleltop parts of the two plates 8 and 14.
A label holder 16 common to all the side plates is also secured to the top of the rack above the level of the label holders 14. In the rack shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the label holder 16 consists of two parallel spring plates spaced a little apart at their upper parts to receive the card or label, and having their lower parts secured together and to two opposite corners of the frame, so that the label holder is arranged diagonally of the frame and turns with it.
In the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4., the label holder 16 is formed of two parallel plates similar to the label holder 16, but the label holder 16 is secured to the upper part of the center spindle which is extended above the top of the frame. 1
The label holders 16 and 16 are used for any advertisement of a general character, and the label holders 14 are used for the prices of the articles secured to the sides to which they pertain, or for some other suitable advertisement.
What I claim is:
1. In a display rack, a vertical spindle, a frame journaled on the spindle and having flat sides secured together at their edges and provided with series of holesarranged one above another, and removable spring clips for holding articles, said clips having flat backs which bear against the said sides and which have hooks at their top edges which engage with the said holes.
2. In a display rack, a. center spindle, a frame mounted to revolve on the center spindle and provided with sides having means for supporting articles, and plates having offset flanges which are secured to the backs of the said sides below their top edges pockets for holding labels being formed between the parallel top parts of the said sides and plates above their flanges.
3. In a display rack, a central spindle, a
frame mounted to revolve on the center spindle and provided With fiat sides secured together at their edges and having means for supporting articles, plates having offset- 5 flanges which are secured to the backsof the said sides below their top edges pockets for holding labels being formed between the parallel top partsof the said sides and plates above their flanges, anda label holder common to all the sides and comprising two par- 19 allel spring plates having their ends secured in two of" the angles of the frame.
In testimony whereol I have afiixed my signature.
EDWARD A. BURBANK.
