Be it lmown that I, CLYDE FQMORA'N, a citizen of the United States, residing at Southgate Gardens, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have in vented new and useful Improvements in a Combination Tool Case, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention is a combination tool case, suitable for use by mechanics and others and preferably comprising an upper or main section, and Ya lower section which may be removably connected therewith, or quickly detached. Y

It is an object of my invention to provide a case commodious enough to carry all the tools that may be necessary for a workman l to use on a big job, but which may be separated into a main compartment, which may be locked and left in any safe place, and a. compartment or section which may be used as a light hand or shoulder box for a tinkering job, the two sections being provided with interior or concealed means by which they may be optionally interconnected, so as to be carried as a single unit.

It is a further object of my invention to provide a construction of the general character referred to in which the mere placing of the upper section upon the lower section will suffice to lock the two together; and in my preferred construction lI provide the upper section with a. cover which may be locked shut, and I also provide on the inside of the upper section a means for releasing the lock by which the two sections are or may be connected.

l Further objects of my invention will appear from the following description of one preferred embodiment thereof, and the appended claims, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the separate sections of my case, the upper section being adapted to close the lower and to be automatically locked thereto.

Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the two sections locked together.

Fig. 3 is a vertical section of one end of my case, showing means by which the sections are locked together, the cover of the upper section being omitted.

carrying case, this section being shown as provided with a cover 2, preferably pivoted thereto and provided with al lock 3 and with a handle 4; and 5 is a lower section shown as provided with an uliistanding metallic rim 6 adapted to fit closely over the outside of a corresponding rim T on the bottom of the upper section, to which the lower sec- -tion may be releasably secured by any suitable means.

In the form of my invention shown, I have provided securing means in the form of a spring bar 8, shown as secured by the rivets 9 extending through the en d wall 10 of the lower section referred to and` provided at its upper end with an aperture 11, within which-aI fixed pin or stud 12, on the corresponding wall of the upper section, is adapted to cooperate in securing the two sections together. It should be understood that locking means of the character here referred to are preferably employed at both ends of my case, and that the bars 8 are sufficiently resilient so that, when the upper section is let down upon the top of the lower' section, the inclined surface 13 of each of the bars 8 is engaged by the fixed pin 1Q, and that these pins snap into the respective apertures provided therefor as soon as the upper section is lowered into its final position.

In order to permit the separation of the two sections only when the upper section has been unlocked and opened, I provide on the inside of the upper section a sliding cam plate 14, which may be secured by any suitable means such as the screws 15 extending through slots 16 therein and through fixed bearing plates 17, adjacent the respective end walls, the lower end of each of the cam plates 14 being provided with a deflected terminal portion or cam 18, adapted to engage the inclined surface of a bar 8, and to release the same from engagement with a pin 12. The upper end of each of the cam plates 14 is shown as provided with a recurved extension 19, by which the same may be grasped when the two sections of my case are to be separated; but it will be understood that the respective cam plates 14 are normally held in elevated position by means such asthe springs 20, which may be secured at one end to the mentioned screws 15, and, at the other end, to the screws 21, extending into the plates 14.
