WATER HEATER.
vApplication led Marchy 21,
ctiicient means whereby a supply of hot water will at all times be had after the water which is initially in the water tank has been heated, means being provided'for automati. callysupplying water 'to the ltank simultaneously with the discharging of the water in the tank below a predetermined level.
A further object of the invention is to provide a water heater ofthe above mentioned character, wherein the water inlet pipe is provided with a coiled section dis posed above the heater so that the water passing Itherethrough will be heated previous to the same being supplied to the water tank thus assuring a supply of hot water within the tank.
tank, and
A still further object of the invention is to provide a water heater of the above mentioned character wherein means is provided with the water tank vfor permitting the escape of steam whichimay be generated in the top thereof thus preventing any possibility of any dama e occurring.
A still further o ject of the invention is to provide a water heater of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive,l strong and durable, und furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages ofthis in-I vention will become apparent in the courseof the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification and in which like numerals designate `like .parts throughout the application,
Figure 1 is a side elevation with parts in section of my improved water heater,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the water re 3 is a sectional fragmentary view of the closure for the water tank.
.In the drawin where for the purpose of illustration is s own .a preferred embodimentof my invention, the numeral 1 desig- Figu natesa substantiallycylindrical casing of a 1924.4 seriai'iNo. 700,909. A
` stove wherein the grate 2 is arranged in the bottom' of the casing, access being had theref to by`means of the door 3, the base .4 for the casing 1 being of any .conventional construction and having provided therei-n'the usual ash pan for the purposes well kgiown inthe art. Suitable legs such as are shown at 5 in the drawing are provided on the base for holding the stove and casingabove the floor A. L
Su ported in the upper portion of a cy.-
"lindrical casing 1 in any sui-table manner is the water tank designated by their numeral 5a. The topl of the water tank is preferably open and is provided. with 'the inwardly ex- 1 tending (annular flange 6 upon fwhich is` adapted tobe secured the removable cover 7 by means ofthe thumb ln-uts and bolts 8 in the mannerY clearly shown in Figure 3 of thesuitable gasket preferably drawing, a formed of asbestos being interposed `between the flange 6 land the cover 7 and is designated by the numeral 9 in the drawing.
Extending upwardly through the base 4' and the casing 1 supported thereon is the water supply pipe 10. ed to be communicated with any suitable source of supply (not shown) and the upper portion of the supply pipe which eX- tends Within the casing 1 is provided with the coiled section 11, the latter being arranged substantially in a The pipe 10 is adapthorizontal' plane Y directly below the bottom of thewater tank 5a and having the ond thereof directed upwardly into communication with the bottom of the Vwater tank in the manner clearly shown in the drawing. This supply pipe 10 provides a4 means whereby cold water may be supplied from a suitable source to the waterttank 5 in the manner as will be hereinafter more fully described.
Provided adjacent the top of the wat r tank 5EL is the water outlet pipe 12. A suitable coupling such as is yshown at 13 may be providedy in `connection with the outlet pipe 12 whereby a pipe '14 may extend downwardly through the `casing 1 and through the base 4, and through the floor A and is adapted to be `connected to the faucet inthe bath room or any desirable place. A suitable faucet 14 is mounted on the extension of the Voutlet pipe 12 which extends through the upper portion of the casin 1 in the manner shown in Figure 1 of the rawlll!) `yof cold water to the water tank a, I provide avalve in the .Water supply pipe 10 and connected thereto byfmeans of the elongated rod or lever 16 which extends upwardlyi in the casing 1 between the outer i wall of the water tank and the inner wall of the casi'ngpis the float A17. The float 17 is supported by means of the rods 18 within the upper portion of the water tank and the 'upper end of the rod 18 is connected -to the upper end-of the lever 16 by means of the linkm 19 which is pivotally supported intermediate its ends in the bracket 20, the latter being carried by the underside of the cover 21 provided :for the topfof ythe cylindrical casing 1. The float 17 rests on .the sui'face of the water `contained. in the water tank,
and -normallywhen the water in the tank is at the level .(indicated in the drawing, the valve *15l will be closed. When the stove is in operation, the water in the tank will be `disposed directly above the fire'.
,caused to be heated as will also the water .contained in the coil section 11 which isl As --the Water is drawn olf from. the'\.top of the tank to the outlet pipe 12, thel float 17 will defurther supply of water to the tank. In this manner, a continuous supply of hot water maybe obtained from the tankand will simultaneously cause the water to be supplied to the bottom of the tank in a heated state thus preventing the loss olf-consider-A able time in waiting for the yWater in the tank t0 become heated as is now the' case with the Water heaters and oil tanks now in buse. f 4
For the purpose of permitting any steam which'y may be generated in the top of the water tank to escape, therefrom, I provide the removable closure 7 with an outlet pipe 22 which extends -upwardly through the y l collar 23 provided on the cover 21 for the casing 1 and theupper end of the pipe 22 will be disposed within they flue pipe 24 supported on the cover 21, in the manner clearly shown in the drawing.` 'A suitable damper such as illustrated at 25 is rovided in the flue pipe 24 and any suitab e means may be provided therefor for actuating the same as may b e desirable.
. The simplicity of my devicewilhthus provide a constant supply of hot Water, and the simplicity in which the 'several parts operate will enableA the same to efii'ciently and positively'insure the supply of waterfto the tank simultaneously with the discharging of the hot water therefrom: Afdevice of this character'may not only be manufactured at aLvery low cost but will also be strong and durable.
While I have shown al preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various "changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to with-out .departing from the spirit of/the invention and the scope of the `appended claim. I
' Having thus described the invention, what I claim is: s -A water i eater for domestic purposes comprising a vertically lelongated heat conining casing, heating means arranged. in said casing at the bottom-thereof, a Water tank supported in the fupper portion of the casing above said heating means, said tank being provided at its top with a removable cover, a water supply pipe extending upwardly through the casing and adapted to be connected to the bottom of said Water.
tank, said supply pipe having a horizontally disposed y substantially at""`-' heating coil formed therein and disposed -in spaced parallelism below the bottom of sald tank, a
oat in said tank having its stem extending' slidably through an opening in said cover,v a lever mounted for rocking movement 1n said casing and connected at one end to said float stem, a cut oii valve in said Watersupply pipe, a link connection between said valve and the other end of said lever, and a Water delivery pipe leading from the top portion of said tank. Y In testimony whereof I affix mv signature.
