To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Josnrrr Koormnsni, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, Cook county, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Garment Fasteners, of which the following is declared to be a full. clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to garment fasteners, and its principal object to provide a fastener composed of two connectible and disconnectible members which may be readily connected, and disconnected, but which shall be incapable of accidentally coming apart from ordinary usage. Another object is to provide a button member and a co-acting button securing member, formed of spring metal and having a slotted member for connection with the button, and a tongue engaging with the head of the button and acting to prevent accidental disconnection between the two members.

To such ends this invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter set forth and claimed.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the button securing member of a garment fastener, embodying a simple form of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the button member thereof; Fig. 8 is a front elevation of the button securing member; Fig. at is a rear elevation thereof; Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the button member; Fig. 6 is an edge view of the button securing member; Fig. 7 is a face view of a blank, from which the button securing member is formed up, and Fig. 8 is a central vertical section taken through the device showing the two members in their connected position. Figs. 3 to 8 are upon a greatly enlarged scale.

Referring to said drawing, which illus-- trates one embodiment of the present in-- vention, the reference character A designates the button member and B the button securing member of the garment fastener. The button member has a base portion 9, formed with holes for the thread, a shank 10, and a head 11 thereon.

The button securing member is formed from a blank such as is shown in Fig. 7 which blank is folded approximately mid- Way between its ends to form a U shaped article (see Fig. 6), of which the part 12 FASTENER.

forms the base portion of the button securing member, and the part 1.3 forms the but ton engaging portion. The base portion is formed with holes for the thread. The button engaging portion 13 is slotted lengthwise of the member B and said slot may be in the form of a keyhole slot as shown. The slot is made wide enough to permit the shank or neck of the button to be passed through it but not wide enough for the head of the button to pass through. The base portion is punched or struck up to have a tongue 14 which is in the form of a reverse curve, in cross section, and the curved part 15 thereof extends approximately across the gap between the two members 12, 13 and across the slot of said slotted member 13.

The two members A, B, are sewed to the garment or other article at the places where it is desired to fasten the garment. The two members A, B, are connected by passing the neck of the button through the slot and into the rounded bottom portion thereof. It will be observed that as the head 11 of the button passes the tongue 14, it springs said tongue back until it passes by, after which said tongue springs back into normal position and prevents the button from being accidentally disconnected from the button securing member. It may be disconnected therefrom by moving it along the slot and applying sufficient force to force back the tongue as the head of the button is moved past it. The pull of the button, under ordinary conditions, is in a direction away from the tongue and as the head of the button is looked under the slotted button engaging part by the tongue it cannot escape but must be moved along the slot and past the spring tongue.

More or less variation of the exact details of construction is possible without departing from the spirit of this invention; I desire, therefore, not to limit myself to the ex act form of the construction shown and described, but intend, in the IEOllOWlll." claims, to point out all of the invention disclosed herein.

I claim as new, and Letters Patent:

1.
