To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, DONALD E. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Bridges, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention aims primarily to provide an improvement in the general con struction of a so-called dental bridge dummy.

The invention has for a further object the production of an improved dental bridge dummy of the so-called egg-shaped porcelain tipped and faced type.

Furthermore, the invention provides a dental bridge dummy embodying certain novel features of construction which simplilies the technique of the construction.

Still another object of the invention is the production of an improved dental bridge dummy which thoroughly conforms to the anatomical, sanitary, esthetic and mechani cal requirements of dental bridge work.

The invention has for another object the production of a dental bridge dummy so constructed as to afford a dependable seat for, and to which the gold mounting is rigidly secured, and presents a labial or buccal and lingual surface conforming to the natural teeth.

The above and other objects and advantages I successfully attain in the embodiments hereinafter described, defined in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, of which,

Referring to the illustrations, the dummy comprises a porcelain base having an eg shaped lower end part, 10, adapted to seat on the gum or within the natural root socket of the gum and formed with an outer upwardly-extending side portion, 11, providing in the posterior dummy the buccal surface, 12, and in the anterior dummy a labial surface, 13. The top of the root tip portion, 10, of the base is formed with a substantially flat, horizontal surface, 14, and the sides of the upper part of the root tip portion are preferably cut away, as at 15, to provide an exterior shoulder, 16. The top of the reduced portion, 15, is preferably formed with an upwardly-projecting rib, 17 and the inner side of the upwardly-extending portion, 13, is concave, as at 18 (Figs. 3 and 4). In practice the gold mounting, 19, is cast to the desired shape and adapted to seat upon the surface, 14, the rib, 17, and the shoulder, 16, with the lingual surface of the mounting substantially flush with the face of the root. tip portion immediately below the shoulder, 16. The mounting, 19, is cast with a depending pin, 20, preferably having its head, 21, embedded in the mounting, 19. The pin, 20, is inserted in an open ing, 22, in the porcelain base portion and firmly secured therein by suitable cement.

Although I have illustrated and described the preferred form of the invention, I would not be understood as being limited to such specific construction, for various alterations and variations may be made in the details of construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the following claims, to-wit:

In combination a dental bridge dummy comprising a porcelain base having an eggshaped root tip portion and an upwardly-extending outer face edge portion, a mounting therefor, the top of the base having a substantially horizontal surface to serve as a seat for the mounting, the upper end of the root tip portion being reduced to provide an external shoulder on Which the mounting seats, an upwardly-extending ridge encircling the top edge of athe said reduced sportion, thereby forming 21- depressed portion Within said ridge, and a, pin adapted to 'be embedded in the mounting, the 'base having a vertical opening to receive the pin and in which the pin may be cemented, the mounting having a depression adapted to receive the ridge, and a downwardbgprojecting lip adapted to engage the externzilsshoiflder.
