B. R. DEXTER CABINET momma BOARD AND Filed March 17. 1923 INVENTOR ammM/r 1?- 05mm ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 25, 1924.
BENJAMIN R. DEXTER, F OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
CABINET IRONING- BOARD AND SEAT.
Application filed March 17, 1923.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN R. DEXTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinet Ironing Boards and Seats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a combination cabinet ironing board or table and seat.
The object of my invention is to provide a cabinet in which an ironing board and seat are positioned, the back of the seat acting as the brace for the board.
In the drawing in which my invention is illustrated, I have shown the preferred form of my invention, but it may be embodied in other forms, and in the specification and appended claims I wish to cover my invention in whatever form it may be embodied.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view of my cabinet. with the board and seat lowered.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of my cabinet with the board raised and the seat lowered.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front view of the lower portion of my cabinet.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-t of Figure 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a cabinet in which the ironing board and seat are positinned, and which may be built into the wall or secured to it. A door 2 is hinged to the cabinet 1 and closes the upper portion of said cabinet.
A seat and door 3 closes the lower portion of the cabinet 1 and is pivoted at 4 to the sides of the cabinet; said pivot is positioned above the lower edge of said door a distance Serial No. 625,867.
corresponding to the depth of the cabinet 1. The block 5 is secured to the rear wall of the cabinet 1 and serves as a stop for the scat when said seat is in a horizontal position. A seat back 6 is pivoted to plates 7 secured to the seat 3, by means of pins 8 which enter a slot 9 in said plate. Thus the back 6 may be easily removed if desired.
An ironing board or table 10 is slidably pivoted in plates 11 in the cabinet 1, and the back 6 rests against a block 12 on the bottom of said board to hold it in a horizontal position as shown in Figure 1.
If itis desired to use the seat alone the board or table 10 is raised into the cabinet 1 and the door 2 is closed with the back 6 resting against the board as shown in Figure 2.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A cabinet, an ironing board pivoted therein, a seat pivoted in said cabinet, a back pivoted to said seat, and means on said board adapted to be engaged by said back to support the ironing board in a horizontal position.
2. A cabinet, an ironing board pivoted in said cabinet. a seat pivoted in said cabinet below the ironing board, a back pivoted to said seat, block on the lower face of said ironing board adapted to be engaged by the back to support the ironing board.
cabinet, an ironing board pivoted in said cabinet. a. seat pivoted in said cabinet below the ironing board. a back pivoted to said seat, a block on the lower face of said ironing board adapted to be engaged by the back to support the ironing board, plates secured to said seat, said plates having slots formed therein, pins in the back adapted to enter the slots thereby pivoting the back to the seat.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
BENJAMIN R. DEXTER.
