Description

A. E. B. SMITH ALBUM OR BOOK CABINET Filed Nov. 6, 1922 Patented Nov. I8, 1924.,
barren imam ALBUM OR BOOK CABINET.
Application filed November To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR EDWARD BARTON SMITH, a subject of the Kingdom of Great Britain, residing at 140 Finch Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, in the county of lVarwick, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Albums or Book Cabinets. of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises certain improvements in or relating to albums or book cabinets, and it comprehends an album or book cabinet suitable for containing negative films, gramophone records, or the like, and which is more durable, efficient, and generally of greater utility than devices of this character heretofore in use.
According to the present invention, the magazine of envelopes utilized for containing the films, records, or the like are secured in relation to the album cover by binders passing through perforations in the envelopes, the saidbinders being adapted to anchor the envelopes to fins or ribs appropriately incorporated in the cover.
In order that this invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into praetice, reference may be had to the appended explanatory drawings, upon which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an album according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional plan of the album shown in Figure 1.
In a convenient embodiment of the present invention, a n'mltiplicity of envelopes a of single, double or other character are incorporated in a cover 7) with their open extren'iities remote from the region in which they are bound. The cover 5, which may be composed of cloth, cardboard, paper, or the like is furnished at the juncture of each of the front and rear cover portions with the back of the binding with marginal Webs or fins 6. These may be formed by providing a continuous length of cloth which is 6, 1922. Serial No. 599,446,
secured to the front cover, then extended away therefrom to form one face of the Web, then folded through 180 to form the back of the first web 0 (which latter may internally be reinforced by a layer of any appropriate material), the cloth thus forming the web 0 being then carried across the back of the cover 6 to the juncture of the said back with the rear portion of the cover, at which point the cloth forms a similar rib o 5 in the manner defined in connection with the rib c first described. These two marginal ribs 0 c serve internally to receive the magazine of envelopes a, and the said envelopes a are secured between the said ribs 0 0 by rivets d passing through both ribs 0 c and the magazine of envelopes, these rivets (Z being fitted at each extremity with a washer e, outwardly of which they are riveted, the rivets being, if desired, shouldered to provide for an effective process of riveting. The rear element of the cover 5 may be continued in the form of a flap 6 to be folded over the front cover and secured by a pressbutton or other fastener f.
The thickness of the magazine of envelopes a may be materially less than the space between the ribs to accommodate the thick ness of the films when assembled within the envelopes.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
An album comprising a book cover having a back portion and side covers, a maga' zine of envelopes, a cloth on the inner side of $0 the back portion, doubled to form fins at the junctions between the back portion and the side covers, said fins also providing flaps secured to the side covers, the said envelopes being arranged between the doubled fins, and fastening means extending through the envelopes and the fins.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
ARTHUR EDWARD BARTON SMITH.
