Description

Oce. 14 1924. 1,512,005
W. D. WRIGHT VANITY CASE Filed June 29, l923 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS.
Patented ct. 14, i924.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM D. WRIGHT, OF CONCORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
VANITY CASE.
.Application filed June 29,
To all trimm if; may concern:
Be it known that l, VILLLU; D. YWRIGHT, a citizen of the nited `States, and resident of Concord, in the county of Middlesex, State of lllassachusetts.y have invented certain new and useful improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The main object of the invention is tov provide a vanity case fitted with two mi rors, one a plain flat reflecting mirror and the other one a magnifying mirror. The purpose of providing a vanity case with two types of mirrors is to permit the user to vexamine a normal size reflection in order to note the normal and ordinary appearance of the skin and then to examine a magnified reflection in order to more clearly note the skin condition. l
A further object of the invention is to provide means wherebyl the user of a skin lotion or cream may very accurately note the progressive betterment of the condition of the skin, the magnifying mirror enabling the user to note accurately the condition of the skin, While the ordinary and normal appearance of the skin will be reflected by the plain flat mirror.
ln the drawings, Fig. l is a perspective view of the vanity case open;
Fig. 2 a transverse sectional view of the case closed;
Fig. 3 a transverse sectional view of the case closed taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 a transverse sectional view similar to F ig. 3 showing the case open; and
Fig. 5 a view of the hinge connecting the two sections of the case, the case being shown as open and broken away.
Referring to the various parts by numerals, l and 2 designate two frames which constitute two box sections. Each frame is formed with a body part 3 and a continuous side flange 4L which extends entirely around the body part so that each flanged frame forms substantially one half of a box. l/Vhen the side flanges of the two frames are brought together, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, a closed dust proof box is formed adapted to contain a powder pu and like arti- 1923. Serial N'O. 648,475.
cles. The two frames or box sections are connected together by a hinge secured to the anges il. rfhis hinge is preferably a spring snap-hinge of any suitable form designed to hold the two box sections closed or to hold them open at right angles to each other. As shown in the drawing the hinge is provided with a bowed spring 6 having its ends engaged over flanges 7 formed on the box sections. Thev tension of the spring 6 forces the flanges 7 toward each other so that when the box Ais closed, as shown in Fig. 3, the tension of the spring holds it closed; when however, the box is open, as shown in Fig. 4, the tension of the spring tends to hold it open. Of course, it will be understood that any suitable form of spring hinge may be used.
n the frame l is secured an ordinary flat reflecting mirror 8, said mirror being secured in position by a retaining ring 9. The ange 4t of the section l is considerably higher or wider than the thickness of the mirror. `Within the frame 2 is secured a magnifying mirror l0, said mirror being convex on its inner side, that is to say, the side next to the body part 3 is convex. The exposed side of the magnifying mirror is preferably flat as shown in the drawings. The mirror l0 is secured in position vby means of a retaining ring ll. The mirror l0 is of less thickness than the width of the flange 4L of the section 2` so that when the two sections are closed or brought together to form a closed box there will be a space between the exposed faces of the mirrors, said space constituting a receptacle in which a powder pulf and other articles may be contained.
The hinge is preferably formed with stops 12 which limit the outward swinging of the two box sections so that the spring will maintain them at right angles to each other when in open position.
What I .claim is:
l. A vanity case or box comprising two box sections adapted to tit together and form a completely closed box, a spring snaphinge connecting said box sections and adapted to hold the box sections either closed or open at right angles to each other, aV plein flat mirror in. one box section, and ai magnifying mirror in the otheil box section.
2. A Vanity cese or box comprising two 5 frames formed With side flanges extending entirely varound the frames, a spi-ing snziphinge connecting said frames and adapted to hold them together with their side flanges 4in Contact or separated and at right angles to each other, a plain iniiioi' in one frame, 10 and a nnigniying mirror in vthe otheig frame, said mirrors being enclosed by the said side flanges and of less thickness than the Width of the said flanges.
In testimony whereof l hereunto affix 15- signature.
