To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnrH BRnsLovn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Pittsburgh, county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Floating Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy for children which is constructed to resemble a house boat or the like and which will be provided with means for supporting it on the water. It may, if desired be used to house other small floating toys and it provides a novel and interesting form of toy constructed in a strong and practically unbreakable manner.
The object of this invention is to provide such a toy which is constructed so that it may be di'ssembled or assembled readily and shipped in a knocked down, condition whereby convenience in shipping is provided,
A further object of the invention is to provide an article of the character above mentioned having its parts simply constructed and arranged so that said parts may be readily assembled by a small child without difficulty to produce a novel toy and to provide an interesting and instructive 0c cupation for the child.
lVith these objects and other objects which may hereinafter appear, in view, I have de vised the particular arrangements of parts set forth below and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved floating toy;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same;
Figure 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and
Figure 41 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, 1 indicates one of the floats or pontoons for supporting the boat house, and forming part of the same. 2 indicates a similar pontoon or float. These floats may be of any suitable material capable of floating in the water and may be of any desired shape according to the construction of house boat they are required to support.
A preferred design for said floats is as shown in the accompanying drawing wherein the same consist of air filled metal chambers. The floats in their operative position are spaced apart and are connected by a suitable brace which is made extensible or telescopic to enable the floats to be readily separated when the boat house is dissembled.
The float 1 is provided with a tubular extension 3 which forms a part of the brace above mentioned and said extension 3 is intended to slide into a complementary extension 4; on the float 2. Each of the floats 1 and 2 is provided with an upwardly projecting flange 5 to enable said floats to be detaohably secured to the side walls 6 and 7 of the boat house. Said side walls 6 and 7 consist of a pair of plates having their lower edges provided with a flange 8 which rests upon the floats 1 and 2. The side walls 6 and 7 are provided at their lower edge with suitable perforations which register with like perforations in the flanges 5 so that small bolts 9 may pass through the walls 6 and 7 and through the flanges 5 to securely attach said walls to the floats 1 and 2. At 10 is shown the back of the boat house which has its lower corners cut away as at 11 to enable said back plate to fit the curve of the floats 1 and 2. Said back plate is pro vided at its opposite side edges with inwardly bent flanges 12 which are perforated to receive bolts 13 extending through the sides 6 and 7. Said bolts 13 secure the back firmly in position and connect the same to the side walls 6 and 7 as above pointed out. The front plate or wall 1 1 is connected to the side walls in a similar manner by being provided with inwardly bent flanges 15 at its opposite side edges which flanges re ceive bolts 16 extending through the side walls 6 and 7 to connect the front plate 1 1 to said side walls.
To further reinforce the structure thus provided, a brace rod 17 is used which connects the front plate 14 with the back plate 10 and screws 18 extend through the front and back plates and into the rod.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a rigid box-like structure is provided, to
which the floats are securely attached. The roof is shown'at119 and the same consists of a flat plate having its longitudinal side edges inwardly bent to form. flanges 20, which co-operate, with flanges 21 on'the up ,per edges of the sides 6' and 7 to enable .the roof 19 to be slid on and off, so; that small floating toys or the like can be readily placed within the house boat through the roof opening;

Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A toy comprising a pair of separated and independent floats, a telescopic brace connecting the same, a plurality of separable plates, means for detachably joining the edges of said plates to ether toforlnthe same into an enclosure, a ange on each of said floats and means for detachably connecting parts of-the enclosure tosaid flanges.
2. A toy comprising side walls, a front and a back, a roofand a pair of floats, flanges on said floats, means for securing the sidewalls tosaid flanges, means for detachably securing the front and back to the side: walls, a removable brace-connecting said front and back. and means on the side-walls for slidably receiving the roof.
3. A toy comprising side walls, a front and a back, a roof, a pair offloats, projecting extensions on said floats adapted totelescope to produce a brace. for connecting the floats, upwardly projecting flanges on the floats, means for securing the side walls to said flanges, inwardly extending flanges on the front and back, means for securing said front and back to the side walls, a
