Description
MCREE GREEN WINDOW CONSTRUCTION Filed July 5. 1923 f-l l s Patented Oct. 14, 1924.
UNITED STATES MCREE GREEN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
WINDOW CONSTRUCTION.
Application led July 5, 1923.
T 0 all -wwm t may concern.'
Be it known that l, MCREE GREEN, a. citi- Zen of the United States of America, resid ing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindo-w Const-ructions, of which the following is a specica tion, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in window construction, and has for its object to provide a window mounting wherein an upper and a` lower sash have sliding engage ment with flanges carried by a parting strip, suoli engagement producing a substantially air-tight and dust-proof joint between said sash and said parting strip.
An incidental feature of my invention resides in the adjustable mounting of said parting strip in its grooved seat, and the ready removability of said parting strip from said seat, for purposes of replacement and repair.
The parting strip of my invention is intended to be of the standard dimensions universally recognized. and established for parting strips, and its flanges are extraneous to the limits fixed by such standard dimensions; so that weather-strip functions are added to the parting strip without reducing its size and strength, my construction adding to its strength. This feature distinguishes my invention from the former constructions which required the parting strip to be cut, grooved or otherwise mutilated to receive an element intended to contact with the sash for weather-strip purposes.
It is an objectof my invention to dispense with the use of any weather-stripping save that accomplished by tongue-s, projecting from the relatively thin and weak parting strip, and having sliding engagement with channels formed in, or channelled members carried by, the sash.
Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional View of a fragment of a window showing the construction of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
ln the drawings the vertical amb of the window casing is indicated as 3, in which the standard groove t is provided, to receive the parting strip A, the bottom of said groove being indicated as 5.
The parting strip A has the outwardlyprojecting side-flanges 6, which engage with the channel-men'ibers 7 of the upper sash 8 and lower sash 9.
The parting strip A is preferably formed from a single sheet of material struck up to form an outer front or wall 10, side-walls l1 having the flanges 6, and the rear-wall B formed of the over-lapping edges 12 and 13, which rear wall B also has the channel 14.
The front wall 10 and rear wall B are perfo-rated to receive the screw 15. Beneath the parting strip A, in the groove 4 and resting upon the bottom 5 is the arched flat spring 16, disposed as shown in F ig. 2, and having an opening at its center to permit the screw 15 to pass through it and hold it in place within the groove 4.
By the described arrangement of parts the adjustment of the parting strip A within the groove L is accomplished by adjusting the screw 15.
from a single sheet of material struck up tol form a front wall, side-walls with outwardly projecting flanges, and a rear-wall formed of two over-lapping edges; in combination with channel-members carried by the window sashes and contoured to embrace the flanges of the part-ing strip.
In testimony whereof l have hereunto aliixed my signature.
MCREE GREEN.
