Description

M.' A. CAPQBIANCO SPARK PLUG CLEANING DEVICE Filed Oct. 15. 1923 lA/l/E/VTOR 1171011431 A CHHQEZQNCO 4 TTOR/VEVS WITNESSES Patented (let. 7, 1924.
MICHAEL A. CAPOBIANCO, OF GLEN COVE, NEW YORK.
SPARK-PLUG-CLEANING DEVICE.
Application filed October 15, 1923.
T 0 all whom it may con/002 12.:
Be it known that 1, MICHAEL A. CAPOBI- ANCO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Glen Cove, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sparklug-Cleaning Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a device for cleaning spark plugs, and has for an object the provision of a simple, compact, eilicient device which can be stored in the tool box ofan automobile and is so constructed as to permit the ready cleaning of several sizes of spark plugs with gasoline at any time it may be desired.
Another object is to provide a construction which will permit a few accessories, such as extra spark plugs, cleaning sandpaper, and spark-gap cleaning blades, to be carried around in the device.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings, of which- Figure l is a longitudinal section through the device; and
Figure 2 is section through a portion of the device showing the manner in which a spark plug is attached thereto for the purpose of cleaning it with gasoline or other liquid.
I'he form of the invention shown in the drawings is a preferred form, although it is understood that modifications in the construction and arrangement of the parts and in the character of the materials used may be adopted without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
In order to provide a simple, compact de vice which can be inserted in the tool box of an automobile to carry all the necessary apparatus for cleaning and washing spark plugs, I provide a container 1 having a cover plate 2 provided with a threaded bore 3 into which a threaded nipple 4|,- extends. This nipple is dependent from a collar washer 6 is disposed between the collar and the cover 2.
The collar 5 is provided with a threaded bore 7 into which a nipple 8 extends. This nipple 8 is dependent from a. collar 9. A washer 1O lies between the collars 9 and 5.
The collar 9 is provided with a threaded bore 11 into which a nipple 12 extends. This nipple depends from the bottom 13 of a container .15.. A Wa h r 14.: lies between the Serial No. 668,692.
collar 9 and the bottom 13 of the container 15. The container 15 is of the same diameter as the container 1 and the collars 5 and 9, so that when fastened together in the manner shown they form one compact unit. The nipples 4 and 8 are hollow, whereas the nipple 12 is solid. The container 1 holds a can of gasoline or other cleansing fluid, whereas the container 15 is adapted to hold an extra spark plug 16, a spark-plug cleaning tool such as 17, and a few sheets of sandor emery-paper, such as 18. The upper end of the container 15 is also provided with a readily removable cover 19 which, preferably, slidably engages the end of the container. It will be readily observed that the bores 3, 7 and 11 are of different diameters.
Figure 2 shows a spark plug screwed into the bore 3 in the top of the container 1, and this plug bears against the washer 6 and can be shaken back and forth so that the clean ing fluid will thoroughly wash the spark plug, after which it can be scraped and the points thereof cleaned with the cleaning tool 17 or the sandor emery-paper 18. If it is desired to clean a spark plug the threaded diameter of which is smaller than that shown in Fig. 2, then the collar 5 is allowed to remain in engagement with the container 1 and the collar 9 is unscrewed from the collar 5, exposing the bore 7, which is slightly smaller than the bore 3. .If a still smaller bore is required, the container 15 is unscrewed from the collar 9 exposing the bore 11.
In this manner, therefore, I have provided a simple, compact and efficient device which provides containers for cleaning fluid and the various appliances used in connection with the cleaning and scraping of spark plugs, and these are ordinarily connected by interengaging collars and nipples each of which is provided with the proper sized bore to receive one or the other of standard in akes of spark plugs. This device is so compact, and when assembled is so tight, that it can be placed into a tool box without any likelihood of coming apart. so that the tools needed for this operation are kept together.
hat I-claim is:
1. A spark plug cleaning device which includes a container having a threaded bore, a collar having a dependent threaded nipple thereon adapted to be screwed into said bore, said collar in turn having a threaded bore of smaller diamete and a sec d ollar ha-ving'a dependent nipple adapted to be threaded into the bore of the first-mentioned collar, said second collar having a threaded bore of still smaller diameter,
' 2. A spark plug cleaning device which includes a container having a threaded bore, a collar having a dependent threaded nipple there-n adapted, to be screwed into said bore, said collar in turn having a threaded hereof smaller diameter; a second collar having" a dependent nipple adapted to be threaded into the bore of the first-m entioned collar, said second collar having a threaded: bore of still sni'aller' diameter, and a second container having a dependent threaded nipple adapted to he threaded into the bore of the] second-mentioned collar whereby the second container is held iii engagernent with said collars and the mnticned container to form a single coinpact unit.
,3. A spark plug cleaning device which includes a, container having a threaded bore, collar having a dependent threaded nipple thereon adapted to be screwed into said bore; said collar in turn having a threaded bore of smaller diameter, a second collar having a dependent nipple adapted to be threaded into the bore of the first-mentioned collar, said second collar having a threaded bore of still sinaller diameter, a second container having a dependent thread- .ed nipple adapted to be threaded into the 4. A spark plug cleaning device Which includes a container having a threaded bore, a collar having a dependent threaded nipple thereon adapted to be screwed into said bore, said collar in turn having a threaded bore of smaller diameter, a second collar having a dependent nipple adapted to be threaded intothe bore-of the first-mentioned collar, said second collar having a threaded bore of still smaller diameter; a seconde'ontaine'r havin dependent thread-ed nip le adapted to be threaded into the boreor the second-mention d collar whereby the second container is held in engagement with said collars and the first-mentioned centai'ner to form a single compact unit,- anda plurality of washers. disposed between the containers and the collars and between the collars themselves, said first-rhentioi'ied container adapted to hold a can of cleans- 111g fluid, said second-mentioned container adapted to hold accessories such as extra spark plugs and spark plug cleaning devices.
