rear-sear STAMPOR CABINET Application 'filed July 8,
T all 10 7mm it may concern Be itknown that LTaaorms H. EUBANK, a citizen of the'UnitedStates, residing at New Bern, in the county of Graven and State of North Carolina, have" invented a new and useful Stamp=or Cabinet Case, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to cabinets or cases especially designed for retaining stamps or similar valuable articles. The primary object of the invention is to provide a case of this character having a plurality of tiers of drawers, novel means being provided to lock the respective tiers I by a single locking door so that a cabinet may be used by several persons avoiding the necessity of providing a separate cabinet for each clerk.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet of this character which may be revolved on its stand to bring a particular tier of drawers to a position where the drawers are easily accessible.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a cabinet constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the stand.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a cabinet on line H of Figure 1 showing a modified form of support.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the device includes a stand comprising a table 5 and leg members 6, the table being provided with casings 7 in which the rollers 8 operate, the casings being of depths to retain a quantity of oil to insure the lubrication of the rollers so that the body portion of the cabinet may move freely thereover.
The body portion of the cabinet includes a casing indicated at 9, which casing has a portion thereof at each side wall, cut away, 55 the walls formed by the cut away portion e g c nne y means f h P rtisaning members 10 which provide supports-for the sliding I drawers 11* which are disposed one ab'ovetheo'therl- I 5 Hinged closures 12 areconnected to the casing and are designed to; close the cut out portions and contact with the drawersllg to lock the closure and eliminate any possibility of the drawers being opened by unauthorized persons, it being understood that a suitable lock indicated at 14 is carried by each closure. The doors are provided with handles 13 whereby the same may be easily moved into and out of the cabinet proper.
A supporting post 15 is secured to the stand, the same having connection with the table 5 thereof, the supporting post 15 being shown as extending through the tubular bearing member 16 that forms apart of the casing, the partitioning members 17 being shown as having their inner ends secured to the tubular bearing as at 18 to provide compartments to receive the drawers. At the upper end of the supporting post are they nuts 19 that secure the casing to the post to prevent displacement of the casing with respect to the stand.
This post 15 is provided with a coneshaped bearing at one end thereof, the bearing being indicated by the reference character 15. Formed longitudinally of the post 15 is a groove 16 which is in communication with the opening 23 formed in one of the nuts 19, so that lubricants directed to the opening 23 will pass along the post 15 and run over the bearing 15 to lubricate the roller bearings 20 which move thereover.
A ball cage 21 is secured to the lower wall of the casing as by means of the screws 22 and support the ball bearings 20 in proper position on the cone-shaped bearing 15.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a single cabinet may be provided with a number of tiers of drawers, each tier being locked by a closure such as described, it being understood that in the use of the device, a clerk will have the responsibility of guarding and accounting for the articles contained in a particular tier of drawers, and to this end it is contemplated that the locks of the closures may be varied so that the key which opens one look will not open theclosure associated with another tier of drawers.
It will thus be seen that when clerks are relieved, the clerks assuming duty will revolve the cabinet until the tier of drawers over which h has authority is v d t an accessible position, the clerk who has been relieved locking his tier of drawers, thereby eliminating the necessity of taking inventory when another corps of clerks goes on duty.
It may be found desirable to supply a track section to the lower portion of the case, to facilitate the operation of the case.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A revolving cabinet having a plurality of sides, a plurality of drawers insertable in each side, said drawers having handles, and a closure for each side hinged to the cabinet portion and adapted to swing in front of the drawers and be locked in such position to hold the drawers against removal, said closures having elongated rectangular cut out portions providing a clearance to permit the handle to extend therethrough, whereby an operator may grasp the same in revolving the cabinet.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiiXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS H. EUBANK.
