Description

Sept. 30, 1924.
A. VOLIVA BRAssIERE Filed Auz. 14, 1923 urn - inane nut rem.
AGNES VOIIIVA, O'F PORTLAND, OREGON, ASSIGNOR TO E OF ITALY OF FRANCISCO, TRUSTEE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, A COORATION OF CALI- Application filed August To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Across VoLIvA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland. in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Brassiere, of which the following is a speci fication. g
This invention relates to womens undergarments and more particularly to brassieres.
The object of the invention is to provide a garment of this character so constructed as to relieve the strain on the muscles and hold the bust in natural position without pressing, binding or flattening.
Another object is to so construct a brassiere that the weight of the bust is borne by the shoulders and back thus relieving the muscles of the breast and there is no pressure on the blood vessels and glands or muscles troubles.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.
in the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 represents a front elevation of a brassiere constructed in accordance with this invention shown applied.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
In the embodiment illustrated the brassiere constituting this invention comprises a body 4111 portion 1 composed of cotton, webbing or any suitable fabric shaped to conform to the upper portion of the body of the user and which may be fastened under the arm as shown or in the front or the rear as desired. Stitched on the body portion 1 are two straps 2 and 3 which are exactly alike except that they are made rights and lofts. Each strap extends over one shoulder across the chest under the breast of the opposite side where it is enlarged as shown at 4- and then passes around under the arm up across the back as is shown clearly in Fig.
of the breast thus eliminating all breast BRASSIERE.
14-, 1923. Qerial 1%. 857,395.
2. These straps 2 and 3 which are made narrow at the shoulders'and wider under the arms are secured together at their points of intersection by stitching or otherwise. The front portions 4 of the straps are curved to conform to the curvature of the breast of the user and extend under the breast operating to support the weight thereof from the shoulders so that the muscles of the breast are relieved of this weight and the breast will be held in natural position with out sagging and without any pressure on the blood vessels or glands which is often times injurious.
The back portions of the straps are not curved as is shown clearly in Fig. 2 and cross each other at right angles about the middle of the back between the shoulders.
These straps 21 and 3 are stitched in position on the fabric body 1 and an elastic band 5 is preferably arranged around the lower edge of the body to adapt it to conform to the waist of the wearer.
From the above description it will be obvious that this brassiere will efiectively support the weight of the breast from the shoulders and back and if desired may be decorated or trimmed to render it fancy according to the taste of the user. A brassiere of this character avoids the necessity of using corsets for holding the breast of the user.
Various changes in the form, shape, proportion and other minor details of construction may be made without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the claimed invention.
1 claim A garment of the class described comprising a body member shaped to fit the upper portion of the wearers body and having breast supports in the form of straps extending continuously throughout the body structure of the garment, each strap em tending in said body structure from one shoulder down under the opposite breast and up across the back of the said shoulder, the portion of each strap extending under the breast being curved to conform to the shape of the breast and the rear portions of the straps being crossed and secured together at sa d gr s e P rtions, the front portions of the straps being crossed and secured to- In testimony that I claim the foregoing as gether between the breasts, said body memrny own, I have hereto afiixed my signature berv extending about the waist and below m the presence of two witnesses.
