Description

Sept. 30 1924.
L. DARLING GARMENT AND SHOULDER STRAP THEREFOR Filed May 25 Patented Sept. 30, 1924.
, UNITED STATES LOUISE DARLING, OI TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
GARMENT-AND SHOULDER STRAP THEREFOR.
Application filed May 25,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,'LOUIS\E DARLING, a citizen of Canada, residing at Toronto, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garments and Shoulder btraps Therefor,of which the following is a s ecification.
his invention relates to garments and shoulder straps therefor.
Some of the ob'ects of the present invention are: to pro uce a garment such as a brassire, or camisole, or womans vest with shoulder straps, means for adjusting the shoulder straps, and means for clasping parts beneath each strap; to produce a garment of the character mentioned and shoulder straps therefor which will add to the utility of the garment because of the adjustability of the straps and the clasping means carried by each strap; to produce a arment having the characteristics mentione which may be worn with the desired effect and without detracting from the appearance thereof. With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the particular provision, relative disposition and functions of the parts hereina ter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fi re 1 is a view of a brassiere with the shou der straps of the present invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a vievw of one shoulder strap on an enlarged scale with the parts connected thereto.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view of the clasping-device in looped formation about a portion of the shoulder strap which carries the same.
Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing for all of the details it will be apparent that the brassiere 10 shown is provided with shoulder straps 11 each of which is identical in all respects, and each carries a clasping device 12.
lVhile the shoulder straps 11 are shown as applied to a brassiere, it is to be understood that the same may be applied for use on an other style of garment. Inasmuch as the s oulder straps 11 are identical a description of one will sulfice for both; the term shoulder strap is to be construed to 1923. Serial No. 641,441.
include a art which goes over the shoulder and the cFasping; device 12 for claspin or embracing other parts such as shou der straps of other garments when worn.
The shoulder strap proper is preferably in the nature of a ribbon of any preferred material and has adjusting means 13. The strap is atached to the garment 10 by having one end thereof sewed to the rment as at 14 and the opposite end is a j iistably connected to a buckle 15 as shown. A link 13' is secured in the loop 14' formed in the stra l1 and has secured thereto the link. A ta 16 is sewed to the garment as at 17 The clasping device 12 comprises a flexible element 18 of any preferred material, and coacting fastening elements 19 and 20. One end of the flexible element 18 is slidably secured to the strap proper throu h the medium of the tape 21 and exten s laterally therefrom so as to be capable of encircling the strap proper in the form of a loop as shown in Figure 3. One of the fastening element; the element 19 is attached to the free end of the flexible element 18, and the other fastening element 20 is attached at the point of connection of the flexible element 18 to the strap proper. By bringing the faslenin elements 19 and 20 in coacting relation t e flexible element 18 will be held in loop formation.
In connection with the present invention it should be understood that the garment to which the shoulder straps of the invention are applied is worn over another under rment which also has shoulder straps w ich latter are just ordinary shoulder straps. These over undergarments come in certain sizes and in many cases if not in all cases do not hang properly and for that reason. the shoulder straps are made adjustable. To support the ordinary shoulder straps of the undermost garment clasps have been employed as separate and distinct parts. In the present case clasping devices are employedthe devices 12, and they anecarried by the shoulder straps as parts thereof res ectively. It will now be manifest that t ere has been described a rment and shoulder straps therefor which embodies features by virtue of which the garment may be worn properly with the added advantage of the support of the shoulder straps of the ably secure said flexible element to the strap, undermost rment. cooperating fastening elements secured to 1 What is c aimed is: the flexible element at its ends and arranged In a garment shoulder strap a clasping upon opposite sides thereof for the purpose I device bein associated therewith eomprisspecified.
ing a flexib e element, a tape having its ends In testimony whereof I hereby afiix my secured to one end of the flexible element and signature.
umierlying the strap in a manner to slid- LOUISE DARLING.
