SCAFFOLD.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK Karrie, a citizen of the United States, residing at Farr, in the county of Huerfano and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Scaifolds, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to scaffolds especially adapted for-use in windows for the purpose of providing a convenient and safe support for window cleaners, painters and other workmen.

An object of the present invention is the provision of a scaffold which includes a platform seat adapted to be removably secured upon a window sill, means being pro vided for adjusting the securing means to accommodate the scaffold to different windows.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a window scaffold which is adapted to extend behind the window and which is provided with means for supporting the extended end, whereby the latter will be securely held in place even though the securing means above mentioned should become loose.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the scaffold secured in position for use.

Figure 2 is a section taken vertically through the window opening and showing the scaffold in side elevation.

Figure 3 is a vertical section through the scaffold.

Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the clamping members.

Figure 5 is a bottom plan view of the platform.

Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the scaffold is shown as applied to a window 10, the sill of which is indicated at 11.

The scaffold is adapted to be clamped upon opposite sides of the window sill and for this purpose there are provided clamping members 12 and 13, the former being adapted to be placed upon the inside of the Serial No. 673,738.

window and the latter upon the outside. Each of these members is provided with a centrally located transversely reduced portion 14, while secured within this reduced portion is an arched rod 15. This rod eX- tends iongitudinally of the reduced portion and is spaced from the inner edge thereof so as to provide a guide 16 for each of the clamping members. The members 12 and 13 are provided with openings 17 and elongated slots 18, through which pass clamping bolts 19, so that the members may be secured upon opposite sides of the sill 10 and clamped thereto by means of nuts 20. The outer member 13 is provided along its lower edge with an extension 21 which rests upon the lower outer portion of the sill so that the lower edges of the guides 16 are on substantially the same horizontal plane.

Slidable within the guides 16 is a platform seat 22 which has secured transversely of its bottom braces or cleats 23 and 24, i

the braces 23 acting to limit longitudinal sliding adjustment of the platform. An opening 25 is provided in the platform be tween the braces 23 and 24 and this open ing is adapted to receive a tongue or ex tension 26 provided upon a. seat back 27, the brace 24 acting as a brace for said back.

Extending transversely within the window adjacent the top thereof is a cross bar 28 which is secured in position by means of adjustable looped members 29 and bracket arms 30, the latter extending over the top of the window frame and being secured in place by means of screws 31. Se cured to the bar 25 are the opposite ends of a flexible looped member 32 which is crossed and secured together as shown at 33 and whose opposite ends are connected by means of a buckle 34 so that the length of the loop may be regulated. This loop is adapted to engage beneath the outer end of the platform seat and in addition to providing means for supporting the outer end of the said platform seat, provides means for the attachment of a safety strap (not shown), which, if desired may be worn by the workman.

Itwill be apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings that the invention provides a useful and reliable scaffold, by means of which a workman may conveniently and safely work upon the outside of a Window at any height from the ground.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall Within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention What is claimed is:

1. A Window scaffold comprising spaced clamping members means connecting said members whereby the latter may be engaged. upon opposite sides of a Window sill, a platform, means slidingly connecting the platform and clamping members, means for limiting such sliding movement, a cross bar adapted to be positioned transversely across the upper end of the Window, means Whereby the bar may be secured in position and a flexible loop member secured to the bar and detachably engaging the platform for supporting the outer end of the latter.

Window scaffold comprising spaced clamping members, each of said members comprising a bar having a transversely reduced portion, a rod secured Within and spaced from one edge of said reduced portion to provide a. guide, said members having openings adjacent their ends, bolts extending through the openings, whereby the members may be clamped upon opposite sides of a window sill, a platform extending from and slidable Within the guides, means for limiting such sliding movement and means adapted to be secured to the upper part of a Window frame and engaging the outer end of the platform to support the latter.
