D. GREENWELL INTELLIGENCE STATION Filed March 28. 1921' Invenfor:
for-flay HERBS Patented Sept. 2, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HAZEL D. GBEENWELL, OE FORT THOMAS, KENTUCKY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAZEL D. GREEN- WELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Thomas, in the county of Campbell and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Intelligence Stations, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to intelligence sta-' hotel lobbies, department stores, or other .public buildings, and to leave messages for one or more partles, who for some reason 'cannot be there at the stated time, and
further to enable intelligence to be transmitted between persons who pass a given location at different times, without themcessity of wasting their time in making appointments, and further "to enable directing heads of organizations to convey instructions to subordinates whose duties are such as not to admit of their making definite appointments.
I It is another object of myinvention to so construct my improved device, as to readily enablepersons to find messages intended for them, and also to prevent their perusal by uninterested parties.
My invention. consists in providing boards with alphabetically arranged places for messages, that are adapted to be written on blank forms suitably prepared for sealing, and located at centrally accessible points.
My invention further consists in the parts and combination and arrangement of parts, as herein described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved device.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the message form.
Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the message form.
Fig. 5 is an elevation of the message form showing its appearance after being sealed.
INTELLIGENCE s'raaioiv. Y
- Application filed March 28, 1921. Serial No. 456,263.
Fig. 6 is a vertical cross section of the same.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of one of the alphabetically designated hooks for holding the message forms.
In the embodiment of my invention, a illustrated, a vertically arranged board 10 has thereon hooks 11. The hooks consist of screw shanks 12, having plates 13 on their outer ends. ront surfaces 14 of the plates have alphabetical letter designations 15 thereon. A writing desk 16 is secured to the lower end of the board, and may consist of an inclined surface 17 and side pieces 18. A ledge 19 is formed by extending the front side 20 of the desk above the upper surface thereof to prevent objects from rollingoff.
Below the blank space, the word Name may be imprinted and also a blank'line 28 p in conjunction therewith, for the signature of the person writing the message. Also instructions for using the blanks may be imprinted below the name, such as Write name plainly on reverse side and seal. Below this last named imprint and along "its lower edge, the blankis coated with a blanks in position. Pencils 34 of any suitable form have on their rear ends eyes 35. Flexible connections 36, such as a cord, have one of their ends secured to the eyes on the pencils and their other ends secured to screw eyes 37 fastened in the desk.
some reason has been delayed. Mr. King,
however, is unable to wait for Mr. Jones and proceeds to the station which is located nearby and writes the following message on the front face of one of the forms in the I space 27: I
I was. unable to wait for you as I have another engagement. -Will meet you here at 11.30 a. m. tomorrow. He signs his name J; Kingon the line 28 opposite the word fName, and lnoistens the strip of adhesive 29 on the lower edge of the message form. He then folds the message form over so as'to force the adhesive into contact with the upper part thereof immediately. be-
low the slot 26, thereby covering up and sealing the message He then tears the -form off. the; pad and writes thename of .Mr. Jones on the blank line 30,.on the re- :verse side-thereof and hangs it up on one of the hooks 11 having the alphabetical let ter designation J. Mr. Jones who arrives at the rendezvous some time later, finds that Mr. King is not there. He proceeds -to the board and finds a-m'essage addressed to him. He opens the message and observes that it is unnecessary for him 'to wait, as Mr. King who has already been there, stated that he could not wait, and would see him at the same place tomorrow. Mr. Jones canthen proceed about his business without any further delay.
- i It is further possible to convey messages between persons'who are continually. moving from one place to anotherflout who pass the stationat different timesof the day.
WVe will assume that Mr- King has Thus, one person can leave-a message properly sealed and addressed at this station in the morning and another person, .for whom it is intended, can stop at the station during the course of the day'and receive such information as desired without thenecessity of losing the time by making engagements. Any, manner of. information intended for persons who are unable to keep their appointments or meet can be transmitted by this method.
My invention is further applicable for use by persons in executive capacities, whodesire to issue instructions to subordinates without the necessity of personal interviews. 1
He can in" this way better organize his days work, as hewill befree from interruptions.
Mytimproved device forms a means of sav-' mg. a great deal of time and lnconvenience to persons desiring to convey information to one another, without the necessityyof meeting personally.
-What I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1..An intelligence station. comprising .in combination a vertical board, aplurality of horizontal detachable hooks on said board .spaced apart from eachother and eachchaving an'alphabetical designation thereon and message cards each havinganaperture adapted to coactwith said hooks v respecti vely ifor holding the respective message cardsonthe' hooks,'and a desk attachedto:
said, vertical 'boards substantially as set forth andiorthe purposes specified.
v2. An intelligence station. comprising in combination, 'a verticalboard, a' plurality {of hooks on said board spaced apart fromeachq' other and each having a designationgthere- .on, and message cards each having means adapted to coact with said hooks respectively for holdingthe respective message cards a desk attached to said.
on; the. hooks, and vertical board.
