T all 5153051 it may conc ilejm: I
Be it known that I, Riiw'ro BRIAs'oo, a sub ie lpf fh ne. i 13, r d w Yorl't'city, county and State of New York, have wanted certain new and useful Imi o ashet de ired. H v
further o ect is to provide a turning be compact and simple in peiatioii so thatthe sheets will be turned quickly and without displacement.
. Referring to the drawing wherein r have:
preferred embodiment of iiij venues, j V v I 7 Fig. 1' 1s a view in elevation of a music standequipped withmy turning" the saline being snow-a broken to preserve sp'ace,
Fig,.2 is an enlarged section eases on the-line of Fig; 1,
Fig. 3, is an enlarged bottom view in elevation of the releasing device showing the turning elements in position to be released,
Fig. 4:, is an enlarged section on the line 44 of Fig. 8, and
Fig. 5, is an enlarged section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 5 indicates a music holder, held on a standard 6, the holder 5, comprising a suitable back-board 7 and ledge 8. The holder is provided at its lower edge with a turning device which comprises a base 9 to which are pivotally secured as by a staple 10, a plurality of nested turning elements 11. These turning elements are engaged by suitable levers 12, which are operated by the springs 13, wound around the shanks of each of said levers 12, to cause the same to have a swinging movement from right to left. The ends of the levers which are surrounded by the springs are covered by a suitable housing 14.
The staple 10, upon which the turning elements 11 are pivoted, is fastened in the base member 9. Each of the turning elements 11, is provided with a sheet engaging portion 15, which has" secured thereto, suitable arms 16 and 17, the member 15 passing adjacent the pivot 01' staple 10, and being secured to its respective turning elements 11. The ends of the levers 12 engage suitable slots in the turning elements. In order to provide for the releasing of the turning elements, one at a time, I provide at the right hand end of the base 9, a substantial U-shaped hollow housing 18, in which is supported a vertical lever 19, pivoted at the bottom of the housing as at 20. This lever 19, carries twoi fingers 21 and 22, which project into the open portion of the housing anden'gag'ethe flattened ends of the turning elements 11 disposed within the housing 19. In a suitable slot 23, is a bell crank 2e, having one of its ends resting in said slot, and having its other end p'ivotally connected to the vertical lever' 19 as at 25, the bell crank, of course, being pivoted in the housing as at 26-.
in order to rock the vertical lever 19 at its" pivot, I provide an operating lever 27, e' x t'eriorly of said housing 19, this lever 27 being pivotally secured in a projection of haseo thru the medium of a pin 28, and being connected to. the lever 19 by a suitable cord or'wire 29; The lower end of the lever 27 is engaged by a like cord or wire 30, which engages a cable 31 as at 32, the end of the cable 31 being connected to the base 9 through the medium of a spring 33.
This cable 31 passes through a flexible conduit 34 which is in turn held to the base member 9 by a lock nut 35, which screws on to a threaded tubular member 86, supported by a bracket 37. The cable 31 and its covering 34 extend to the floor where the end of the covering engages a bracket 38, and the cable itself passes through the bracket to engage a foot lever 39, pivoted to said bracket, as at 40. A spring member 11 is disposed beneath said lever 39, and tends to keep the same in raised position, and the lever 27 in forward position, The latter lever is brought to this position through the medium of a small leaf spring 42, within the housing 18, the leaf spring engaging the lever 19, to cause the same to move forwardly and prevent operation of the turning elements. In order to provide for the disengagement of the turning elements singly, I provide them with flattened ends 13, two of which are adapted to underlie the finger member 22, when the turning elements are in position to the lever 39, will draw the cable 31 to cause pivotal movements of the levers 27 and 19, the latter causing withdrawal of the finger 21 to allow the uppermost turning element to swing to its opposite position to turn the sheet.
The bell crank 24, before referred to, has a movement opposite to the fingers 21 and 22, so that when the fingers are retracted, the end of the bell crank 24. is projected. lln the case of three turning elements, the lowermost two will be snapped into position below the finger 22, and simultaneously with the releasing of the upper one, the central one will be allowed to move up against the linger 21, and the lower one will be held by the bell crank 24. hen the central one is released, the bell crank will permit the lower one to raise against finger 21, and remain in this position until released. Releasing of each of these elements occurs singly upon e'ach pressure of the foot lever.
It will be seen therefore, that I have constructed a turning device'which is not only simple in operation, but which can be manufactured cheaply and quickly applied to any music stand in use.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A sheet turning device comprising a pintle, a plurality of turning elements mounted on said pintle longitudinally thereof and in pivotal relation thereto, a housing, a plurality of levers pivotally mounted in said housing and individually associated with said turning elements to operate them, individual springs for operating said levers,
each of said turning elements having a flattened portion at one end thereof, and means for securing said turning elements against operation by said levers and for releasing said turning elements for operation by said levers comprising a lever having fingers for engaging the flattened portions of some of said turning elements, a lever for engaging the flattened portions when the lever fingers are withdrawn, and means for operating said levers simultaneously.
2. A sheet turning device comprising a plurality of turning elements pivotally mounted, individual operating levers for said turning elements, individual springs for said operating levers, means for releasably securing said turning elements against operation by said spring actuated operating levers and for releasing said turning elements one at a time, comprising a lever having a plurality of fingers for engaging a plurality of said turning elements, a bell crank lever pivotally connected to said lever and operated thereby to engage a turning element when the lever is operated to with draw the fingers from engagement with the turning elements, ,and means for operating said securing and releasing levers comprising a lever pivoted. intermediate its length, a rod connecting said last mentioned lever with said first mentioned securing and releasing lever, and a rod for operating said last mentioned lever.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
