SIGN' Homann.
Application tiled October 3, 1923. Serial No. 666,382.
To all whom t may concer/n:
Be it known that l, CHARLES H. LUSH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Freeport, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented a new and lmproved Sign l-lolder, of which the follow ing is a full, clear, Vand exact description.
This invention relates to sign holders and has for an object to provide an improved construction which willproduce a pleasing appearance and at the saine time present a maximum strength.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sign holder wherein the si plates may be quickly and easily remove and replaced.
A still further object, more s ecifically, is to provide a sign holder in which a pair of telescoping frames are used and mounted in such a manner as to be readily disconnected when the sign is to be packed for shipment.. l
ln the accompanying drawing- 1'idigure l is a perspective view of a sign, disclosing an embodiment ol the invention.,
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through Figure l, approximately on line Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional-view on an enlarged scale through Figure 1 on line 3-3.
Figure l "is an enlarged fragmentary secn tional view through Figure l, approximately on line dtd-Ll.
.Figure 5 is a sectional view similar to' Fign ure 3 but showing a slightly modified construction.
Referring to the vaccornpanying drawing vided with a'ertures for receivin suitable bolts 8 where y the outer frame 9 is secured rigidly to the base plates 5 and n. 'lhese hase are riveted or otherwise rigidly secured to the base sections 4 of the respective standards l and 2.
Any desired number or' bolts l0 are also fitted into the vertical portions of the plates 5 and 6, said bolts extending through one flange of the frame 9 whereby the frame' is held at its bottom and sides near the bottom. By using bolts, the frame 9 may be disconnected at any time.' lf preferred, rivets might be used or some other fastening means.
The frame 9 is L-shape in cross section at any point as clearly indicated in Figure 3. Co-acting with the frame 9 is an inner clamping :trame 11 which is preferably rectangular in cross section as indicated in Figure 3 but slightly smaller than the trame 9-`Whereby it may be nested in frame 9 and. ola-mp one or more plates 12in place. As shown in the drawing, there are two plates l2 designed to receive suitable information but if preferred, one plate could be used or more than two, without departing from the vspirit ot the invention. lt will be noted that t e frame 1l fits snugly against the base Harige 16 and presses the plates l2 against the base llange 16 and whereby a neat and strong structure is produced. The traine 9 is provided with suitable apertures at the top whereby bolts, pins or other fastening means 17 may be positioned therein for locking the frames together at their tops while the lugs Y pressed up from the trame 9 hold the frames together at the bottom. lt will thus be seen that by the construction set forth it is only necessary to remove the bolt l? in order to remove the :trame ll from traine 9. lt will be understood that the frame ll is sulliciently loose fitting in the frame 9 to permit trame 1l to be easily moved inwardly and outwardly while at the saine time presenting a fairly snug ht.
ln Figure 5 will be seen a modified form of the' invention in which the construction is identical with the other forms ol the invention except that the traine 1l is formed from angle iron instead of a fiat piece as shown in the preferred torni. When the anble iron is used, 'the outward extending llange l5 is provided with apertures tor receiving the respective bolts s presents a very strong and neat appearance.
l. A sign holder, comprising a. pair oi: standards having horizontal base fictitious,
. base plate rigidly secured to each base portion, each of said plates having a horizontal section and a vertical section, an outer frame element of substantially an L-shape in cross section formed with pressed up lugs at the bottommeans for removably securing said frame to said baseplates, said securing means connecting the frame to the base plates on their horizontal portions and vertical portions, an inner frame element disposed Within the outer element, and removable fastening elements at the top of the frame co-acting With said lugs for locking said inner frame element to the other frame element.
` A sign holder, comprising an outer frame member ot' substantially an L-shape in cross section, an inner frame substantially rectangular in cross section fitting latwiset against the base fiange and said outer frame,I
said outer frame having stops projecting upwardly from its lower horizontal section. rc
movable bolts extending from its upper horizontal section co-acting with said stops for locking said inner frame in place, and a pair f of supporting members including a air ot' substantially A-shaped legs removab y connected with said outer frame member.
3. A sign holder, comprising any outer frame element adapted to receive a si n plate, an inner frame element fitting into t, ie outer frame element and clamping said plate in said outer frame element, means for holding said inner frame element in operative position, an angle plate having a. horizontal and a vertical section removably secured to each of the lower corners of said outer frame element, the vertical section being secured to the sides ol said frame While the horizontal sect-ion is secured to the base of said frame, and a substantially A-shaped su porting standard secured to each of said ang e plates.
