Description

Au 12 1924. 1,5M,M
J. H. E. ZEIP HAT OR NAPKIN HOLDER Filed March 22 1924 'l atented Aug. 112, i924,
HAT 0R NAIPKIN HOLDER.
Application and March 22, 1924.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that JOHN H. E. Znir, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, has invented cerain new and useful Improvements in Hat or Napkin Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is in the nature of a hat holder, and the object of the invention is to provide in a neat and attractive form, a hat and napkin holder which may be readily and rcleasablyattached to the garment of the user, as to the lapel of the coat, and by which when so located, a hat or napkin or the like may be readily and releasably secured. l
A further object is to provide a simple and efficient means for holding a hat when removed from the head, as in a theatre, without steadily occupying the hands for that purpose; or for holding a napkin in place when at table.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a view showing the device in actual use;
Figure 2 is a relatively enlarged elevation of the device itself;
Figure 3 is an edge View of one of the clamps.
The invention consists of the combination of two specially formed clamps 1 and 2 linked together by means of a chain or cord 3. The clamps 1 and 2 are formed of stifl' sheet metal and embody inwardly curled jaws 4, held normally in closed relation in any conventional manner, as by means of the spring shells 5, through the slots 6 of which the handles 7 of the clamps are Serial No. 701,047.
passed. The clamp 1 is provided with a lateral ear 8 having an eye 9, while a similar eye 9 is pierced through the extremity of the handle of the clamp 2. The two clamps are then connected by means of the chain 3, or a cord in lieu thereof. The curled formation of the jaws 4-. prevent same catching on the garments.
The use of the device is apparent from the drawing and description, and owing to the peculiar formation of the aws of the clamps, they are adapted to easily span the edge of a hat rim or a coat lapel and firmly grasp and hold the two together.
The entire device is, of course, to be made in a neat and attractive form as a species of jewelry; and handsomely finished in any desired manner; and while I have herein described a certain specific manner and method of construction, it is understood that I may vary the said form and method of construction in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention, as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A device of the kind described, comprising two clamps having their jaws curled inwardly, one of the jaws having a laterally disposed ear pierced with an eye, and the other jaw having an eye pierced through the end of the handle; and a chain connecting the two clamps through the said eyes thereof.
In, testimony whereof I my sginature.
JOHN H. E. ZEIP.
