Description

c. GIMURTSINA CATAMENIAL APPLIANCE Filed March 17. 1923 ATTORNEY IN VEN TOR Patented July 29, 1924.
CHRISTOS GIMURTSINA, OF NEW YORK, N. Y,,, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO SPHINX SANITARY APPLIANCE 00., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A FIRM.
CATAMENIA-L APPLIANCE.
' Application filed March 17, 1923. Serial No. 625,787. 7
To all whom 2'2, may concern:
Be it known that I, GHRIs'ros GIMURTSINA, a citizen of Greece, and resident of the city of New York, in the county of New York tain new and useful Improvements in Catamenial Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in catamenial appliances or bandages, and has for one of its objects to provide an article of this character which is thoroughly efficient in use, comfortable to the wearer, and which may be readily adjusted to the person of the wearer in such a manner as to obviate discomfort. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide the appliance with a pad of absorbent material that may be readily replaced.
A further object of the invention is to provide co-acting means on the bandage and the pad for securely fastening the latter in position upon the bandage, the securing means being so arranged that they do in no way inconvenience the wearer.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is capable of manufacture on a commercial scale, or in other words one which is not so difiicult to make as to be beyond the reasonable cost of such a contrivance.
' lVith these and other objects in View, which will more fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the
F5 same consists in the combination, arrangement a'nd'construction of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes c may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the inven-- 4.1 tion.
One of the many possible embodiments of the invention is'illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a catamenial appliance constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; F ig 3 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2 on a larger scale; and Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 44 of 5 Fig. 2, also on alarger scale.
and State of New York, have invented cer The appliance includes an apron 10, prefe'rably, made of non-absorbent and moisture-proof material. This apron is adapted to-fit the lower anterior abdominal wall of the wearer and also the perineal regions, and is connected by'straps 11 and 12 with a belt 13. This belt is provided to retain the article upon the wearer, it being adjustable in the ordinary manner, for instance by a buckle 14. Into the front portion of the belt is inserted a rubber gore 15, for the well known purpose. a
Upon that face of the apron which is adapted to contact with the body of the wearer, there is arranged atpad 16 of absorbent material, said pad comprising a sack-like container 17 of fabric, stuffed with absorbent cotton, denoted by the numeral 18. This container is provided at its front and rear ends with flaps 19 and 20, respectively, each flap being provided adjacent its free end with a button-hole 21.
Through these holes are adapted to be extended but- 7 tons 22 and 23 on the front and rear ends, respectively, of the apron 10.
VVhe-n mounting a pad on the apron, the flaps 19 and 20 are folded back onto themselves and the button holes therein engaged with the buttons on the apron, so that the body portions of the said flaps conceal the buttons, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The buttons will thus not inconvenience the wearer, they being covered by the flaps on the pad.
When the bandage is applied to the person of the wearer, the belt 13 holds the apron 1O tight against the body, the excretionbeing absorbed by the pad 16. This pad may be readily replaced.
What I claim is An appliance of the character described comprising an apron, a pad of absorbent material thereon, a flap on the front portion of said pad, a flap on the rear portion of said pad, each flap being provided with a button-hole, and two buttons on said apron for engagement with said button-holes, said flaps being folded back onto themselves, thereby covering said buttons when the holes therein are engaged with said buttons.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York, and State of New York, this 2nd day of February,A. D. 1923.
