W ILFRID H. LUSIGNAN, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
PIGKER ROD AND STAND FoR LOOMS.
Application filed March 14 1923. Serial No. 625,038.
To all whom it may eoncem:
Be it known that I, VILFRID H. LUsIG- NAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at iVorcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Picker Rod and Stand for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the art of textile machinery or looms, the object being to provide novel improvements in loom picker rods and picker stands.
In order to comprehend the invention, it is here explained that in looms, especially those of the conventional .and well understood type, that the picker rod causes considerable amount of damage and loss of time by becoming loose in the picker stand and which when tightened causes a binding action.
The prime object of this invention is to provide a picker rodwhich can be securely locked into engagement with a picker stand against any possibility of the picker rod becoming loose.
A further object of my invention is to provide a novel picker rod which when once adjusted is always directly in the center of the stand, thus preventing same from binding and becoming loose due to any frictional movement.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a picker rod with a safety device.
And a still further object of my invention is to provide an improved picker rod that can be easily connected to thepresent type of loom after several minor changes have been made.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a picker rod and picker stand which is simple in construction, durable, eflicient for the purpose intended, and one that can be manufactured and installed on looms at a relatively low cost.
Referring to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and which clearly shows the construction of my improved picker rod and stand,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a picker rod and stand constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the picker rod broken in two.
Figure 2 is an end view of the picker rod and stand.
Figure 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a picker rod and stand.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in detail, like characters will beused to designate like parts in the different views.
vertical section through the 'In the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a picker rod formed of fibre, bakelite, or other similar material. The upper end of the picker rod is provided with screw threads 6, which is adapted to pass through a screw threaded bore 7 formed in a picker stand 8. A nut 9 mounted on the outer portion of the threads 6 and a spring Washer 10 coact to securely lock the picker rod into engagement with the picker stand and prevent any possibility of the picker rod becoming disengaged or binding in any way. The outer end of the picker rod is provided with a groove so that if desired the screw threaded portion may be spread to provide additional locking means.
In order to mount the picker rod and stand onto a loom, the stand is provided with a screw threaded recess 12 for. receiving a screw threaded bolt (not shown) carried by the loom. The recess 12 is formed in the stand at right angles to the threaded bore 7 V In View of the foregoing description of my invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that any further explanation as to the construction, operation, and objects of the invention is unnecessary.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, I realize that various minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed, and therefore, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown. nor to the combination and arrangement of parts.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising, a picker rod, one extremity thereof being screw threaded, a picker rod stand provided with an internally threaded bore adapted to receive the threaded extremity of the picker rod, a nut adapted to engage the extremity of the picker rod after the same has been inserted through the stand, means for preventing displacement of the said nut, a screw threaded bore provided at right angle to the first mentioned bore adapted to connect the stand upon the loom, and a boss formed on one side of the stand about the last mentioned screw threaded bore.
2. A. device of the character described comprising, a picker rod having screw threads formed on one extremity thereof. a transverse groove formed on' the extreme end of the threaded rod, a picker rod stand having one side substantially forming a flat surface and the other side curved about the edges thereof, a boss formed on the flat side of the picker rod stand, the central portion of the picker rod stand being provided with an internally threaded bore adapted to receive the threaded extremity of the picker rod, a nut adapted to engage the threaded extremity of the picker rod, a lock washer positioned between the nut and picker rod stand and adaptedto prevent displacement of the said nut,' a second threaded bore formed at right angle to the first mentioned bore and adapted to receive means for securing the picker rod stand upon the loom.
In testimony whereof, I have aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
VVILFR-ID H. LUSIGNAN.
