Description
.my 1, 1924.i momma C. Dl TOSTO MILK BOTTLE OPENER Filed sept. 26, 192:5 I
INVENTOR Patented July 1, 1924.
`^ S T A T E S CARLO DI TOSTO, OF FAIR/MONT, WEST VIRGINIA.
MILK-BOTTLE OIENER.
Application filed September 26, 1923. Serial No. 664,994.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CARLO DI Tos'ro, a subject ofthe King of Italy, residing at Fairmont, in the county of Marion and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottle Openers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide means for removing the closing cap of a milk bottle and the like without danger of spilling the milk.
Another object of the invention is to so form the device that it can be manufactured to sell at low cost and which will be so easy of operation that it can be actuated by servants without difficulty.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, andin whichz- Figure l is a view showing how the device is used.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Figure 2.
In these views 1 indicates a hollow body which has a stem 2 at its upper end to which is attached a handle 3, the stem being hollow and having an interior shoulder t adjacent its lower end. The lower end of the body is closed by the plate 5 which has a rib 6 on its inner face and said plate is provid-ed with a pair of guide slots 7 which are arranged diagonally on each side of the rib. Links 8 are pivote'd to the ends of the rib and theseribs have curved projections 9 which are pointed and arranged to pass through the slots when the links are pushed against the inner face of the plate. A. bar 10 has its head ll pivoted to the links 12 and these links are pivoted to the links 8.
A plunger 13 is slidably mounted in the hollow stem and is fastened to the bar 10 by the pin 14 and a spring 15 is arranged on the bar 10 for holding the parts in projected position.
The lower end of the body conforms to the shape of the mouth of a milk bottle and in using the device the lower part of the device is pressed against the cap which closes the mouth of the bottle and then the hand is pressed against the plunger while the lingers engage the handle. This will cause the links 8 to be pressed against the inner face of the plate so that the projections 9 will be projected through the slots and thus they will pass through the cap so that when the device is moved upwardly the cap will be pulled from the mouth. Thus milk bottles can be easily and quickly opened without danger of spilling the contents.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A bottle opener of the character described comprising a hollow body, a hollow stem :rising therefrom, diametrically oppositely disposed members extending from said stem to provide a handle, a plate closing the lower end of the body and having diagonally disposed slots formed therein, a rib traversing the inner face of the plate and separating the slots, a plunger slidably mounted in the hollow stem, a bar secured at its upper end to the plunger, a head formed on the lower end of said bar, links connected in pairs and secured to the opposite sides of the head, inwardly curved portions projecting from the lowermost lengths and being movable through the slot-s and a coil spring arranged between the lower end of the plunger and a portion of the body for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CARLO DI TOSTO.
