Sept. 14 1926.
P. J. SCHELB PLAY TOY FOR CHILDREN Filed May 13, 1924 Patented Sept. 14, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
PETER JAY SCHELB, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
PLAY TOY FOR CHILDREN.
Application filed Kay 13, 1924. Serial No. 713,015.
My invention relates to improvement in play toys for children for a wheel connected with a push rod actuating an image, in play toys for children, where a child as it Walks or runs rolls a wheel along by means of a push rod, and the image of a quadruped is actuated in a leaping manner by being connected with the push rod and the wheel.
The objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a toy with a natural hip movement that will be interesting for a child to play with and to provide a healthy out-door exercise. Second, to provide a toy that is durable and will be enjoyed by the; larger boy and girl as well as the smaller ones.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated by the accompanying drawings, and as set forth in the specifications in which Fig. 1 is a .perspective view, Fig. 2 is a plan view ofsame, Fig. 3 is the general contour of an integral quadruped, excepting its hind leg, which is substituted by a short link pivoted to the hip; the ob- 5 ject of the integral contour is to provide a long link connection between pivot 9 at the front foot and 12 at the hip, which gives the. image a regular and natural movement at the hip. Fig. 4 is a short link about one- 0 third the length of the distance between the pivotalconnections of Fig. 3, and it forms 'a connection between the hip and push-rod by having one end pivotally connected to the image at 1'2,- and the'other end which is located a suitable distance from the wheel for the purpose set forth. Similar characters of reference are used to indicate' the same parts throughout the different views in which 5 is a push-rod, 6 wheel, 7 pivot connecting wheel with pushrod, 8 is front foot of quadruped, 9 crank, 1011 and 12 are pivotal connections.
Thus it. will readily be seen, by pivotally connecting the push-rod 5 with 6 by means of pivot 7, and by connecting 8 with 9-10 with 11 and 12 with 12, that as the child rolls the trundle wheel along by means of the push-rod, the crank 9 revolves around the pivot 7 and actuates the image in a leaping manner with a natural hip movement.
This device may be made of any kind of suitable material, and changes may be made in the form, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention.
\Vhat I claim is:
In a play toy of the character described a trundle wheel pivotally connected to a push-rod, an integral member having the contour of a quadruped, having its front leg eccentrically connected to the wheel a link shorter than the member, said link being connected tothe rear end of the member at. the hip, and having its other end pivotally connected with the push rod at a distance between the extreme back and forth traved of the other end of said link when actuated by said wheel. pivotally connected w1th the push rod at 11,
PETER JA Y SCHELB.
