Description

- Sept; 14 ,1926. 1,599,492 I W. -L. ROTHSCHILD DIS PLAY. BOX
Filed Sept, 23, 1925 I INVENTOR /3 /9r /4 #917971. iarmscxrxzo ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 14, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT ee- WALTER I1. ROTHSGHILD, OF NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK.
DISPLAY BOX.
Application filed September invention, reference is tobe had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of my im-' proved box when erected.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken on the line 33 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4: is a sectional view showing the cover while about to be lowered on the box.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the inside of the cover.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
My improved box 1 has a cover 2 which contains a stand 3 which is secured to. its interor and composed of three parts, namely, a base 4, a short flap 5 and a long flap 6. The short flap has a tongue 7 which is adapted to enter a slot 8 in the long flap 6 so that when this tongue 6 enters at the top of this slot and is shoved down, the stand 3 is held erect, as shown in Figures 1 and 3. By reversing this operation the stand may be disassembled and it will then lie flat in the cover 2, or substantially so.
The cover 2 may be made in any suitable way and for ordinary cardboard boxes it 'is preferably made. as shown, that is with top 9 and laterally extending flanges 10 which are secured together and to the top, in the conventional manner. v
The box 1 has a bottom 11 which is a littlesmaller than the top 9 and correspond ing flanges or sides 12, of the conventional kind, so that a description is unnecessary.
as, 1925. Serial No. 58,039.
If desired, it may also have a number of partitions 13 which divide the box into compartments and it may also have a flat portion 1% on which any display device may be placed. In the preferred embodiment of my invention horizontal strips 15 are also pr0- vided at the bottom of each compartment and in front of the same so as to have a proj ecting edge, as indicated in Figure 4:, which edge will prevent the contents of thebox from falling out.
In view of the foregoing, the erection and packing of my improved box will be readilyunderstood. It is packed in the conventional manner by putting the cover in place with the flaps, as shown in Figures t and 5, and then'it looks like an ordinary box and may be shipped and stored as such. When it is to be erected, the cover is first removed and the box allowed to lie flat and after the cover is removed the stand 3 is erected, as above described, and then the bottom is placed in the cover, as shown in Figure 1, so that it is possible for the person erecting the display box to do so without any danger of dumping out the contents. To prevent the. contents from falling out too easily, the strips 15 function as above described.
\Vhile I have shown and described my improved display box as suitable. for buttons mounted on cards, it is obvious that it is not restricted thereto, but that it may be used whenever desirable, and this invention covers all boxes that come within the scope of the annexed claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A display box having a cover with a stand secured therein, the stand being composed of a central part secured to the cover and two flaps, one of which is adapted to engage the other and a box with compartments, means adjacent to the compartments for preventing the contents from falling out and means near the compartments for a display device.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 3rd day of September, 1925.
WALTER L. RO'XHSCHILD.
