SHARPENER FOR. SCISSORS AIILD KNIVES.
Application filed April 1, 1925, Serial No. 19,874. Renewed January 4, 1926.
This invention relates to an improved derice which is particularly adapted for sharpening both knives and scissors.
The principal object is to generally improve upon devices of this class by provid ing one of comparative simplicity and. durability which can be made from a single metal stamping to render it as inexpensive as possible, the particular construction being such as to also render it exceedingly practical in operation and effect.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same Figure l is a perspective view of a knife sharpenrer constructed in accordance with the present invention,

Fig. 3 is a front end elevation, and
Fig. at is a fragmentary top plan view.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the device is made from a single metal stamping, and that it comn'ises a handle 1 and a head 2. As indicated in the drawings, the head 2 which cinnprises a somewhat rectangular area, is of hardened steel which may be conditioned by any appropriate process. Prior to hardening of the steel the free end of the head is cut to permit a portion 3 to be bent up at right angles to the top and form what may be referred to as an abutment, and also as a knife blade sharpener. In bending this portion, other port-ions in the form of tongues l are struck out and bent down, being disposed at a slight angle to the plane of the top of the handle and head. These tongues Tl constitute scissor blade sharpeners. The free edge of the up bent portion 3 is slit to provide multiplicityof co-n'iparatively smaller tongues 5, and these tongues are alternately bent in opposite directions to provide a substantially if-shaped seat for reception of the cutting edge of a knife blade.
If it is desired, a notch 6 may be formed on one edge and a hook 7 located adjacent this notch to provide a bottle opener.
l n practice, if it is desired to sharpen the knife blade, the knife blade indicated by the reference character 8 in Figure 2 is seated in between the teeth or tongues 5, and is reciprocated back and forth and sharpened in a well known manner. Should it be desired to sharpen a scissor blade, the blade 9 (see Figure 2) has its cutting edge seated against the tongues 43; with its flat face bearing against the upbent part 3 which then function a guide and abutment.
The foregoing description and drawings will SlllllCQ to enable a clear understanding of the construction of the improved device to be attained. For this reason a more lengthy description is deemed unnecessary.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus described the invention, what 1 claim is 1. A combined knife and scissors blade s iarpener embodying a body having a rightangularly disposed portion at one, end, said portion constituting a guide and abutment, and having its free edge ser ated to provide teeth, said teeth being arranged to provide a knife blade sharpener, and additional sharpening means for a scissors blade co operable with said abutment.
In a device of the class desr-ribed, a handle having its outer end portion bent up at right angles and provided with serrations, said serrations forming teeth and said teeth being bent alternately in opposite directions to provide a substantially t -shaped seat for the cutting edge of the knife blade and tongues S'El'HCK out from the material and c operable with said right-angularly bent end.
